I finally talked to the local machine shop today. Told the guy my plans, and what I wanted to do. He said 500 lb ft is completely doable, and we could probably go more than that. Said it was going to be $1500 for all the head and block work, with the engine fully assembled sans intake, carb, and headers. I know where 3 older 300s are, and then theres the one in my truck now (which has to stay there until I get my new one done). I'm so excited, I figured it was going to be twice that much to get it all done. So anyways, once I get my lift installed, and all the rest of my drivetrain done, I'll get the engine. Probably be 4 months and this baby will be done, except for bodywork and paint... er I mean Line-X.

WOWWW Sounds like fun. I think some oil cooler setups have some sort of thermostat setup to regulate when oil flows into the oil cooler. I would also be very sure to get everything properly balanced.

Oh, well yeah, of course. I have talked to several people, not only locally, but at truck and tractor pulls in other countys, and they pretty much all said "You live in XYZ? Take it to M&Rs, if they cain't do it, nobody can." I ordered my 4" Rough Country lift today, and should have it by Monday. I've already got everything else (bushings, ball joints, steering linkages, 15x10" US Wheel Series 70s, 33x12.50R15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws). Man, I'm SOOO excited. I can't wait to get back in the mud. After my lift is installed, I'm rebuilding my 8.8" rear axle with a Detroit Locker, Yukon axles and bearings, and 3.73 gears. My D44 TTB is getting a Power-Lock, Yukon axles and bearings, Spicer U-Joints, Mile Marker Stainless Steel manual hubs and 3.73 gears. Then its on to the ZF S5-42 5 speed, with the stock Borg Warner 1356 T-case, and Centerforce II 11" clutch. Sorry if I'm rambling on... but I just can't help it.

I know, isn't that great? The cheapest reman I could find was $1350. I can get a 300 for about $75- $100 from a guy I know (or maybe a few cases of beer). The engine work will be $1500, then you have to figure another $1000 for the intake, carb, headers and exhaust, etc, etc. At any rate I'm excited about it.

Rot, this thread has gone on for quite some time, probably due to the rather optimistic tone of the hoped for power output.

500 lb/ft. is the promised land now, so through all the speculation and permutations I lost the specifications and modifications that will supposedly produce the power output claimed. So, bear with me, as I can't keep up.

Naturally aspirated (not at all likely to produce the power desired) or forced induction now? Higher revver or low speed torque machine (the torquer won't get you the 500 lb. ft. if naturally aspirated). Compression? Intake? exhaust?

Wild eyed speculation tends to run rampant when engine builders see an open checkbook. All I can say is beware of those that tell you exactly what you want to hear. What you should have heard is that compression and displacement are needed to produce 500 lb. ft NA (especially at low revs), and your 300 is deficient in both areas if you want to keep it streetable.

Since this thread is so contentious, verifiable dyno numbers will be posted, right?
