Good wishes and good luck.

I sure hope I never have to come to you guys for advice in dealing with Ford. If you know what I mean?
Ford not communicating? After the infamous Oct 03 flash, they promised a new flash first quarter 2004. November 2004 it came out. The service writers were saying there wasn't going to be any more flashes for the 03 when it came out. So I guess "better late than never" works here.

New Flash

04 F350 6.0L CC 4x4 to pretty to use for work
The FMC Transmission Engineer I met with 3/15/05 told me a new flash will be out this summer. He said I should get it on my truck --- if I still have it...
I am still waiting for someone to return emails or phone calls...If they get me more I may have no choice and call my, well you know...
I am trying my best to keep a good relationship with my dealer.

I posted this over on "Childish---" would like to get something going just solving problems...just the facts and then fix it. Don't know if this is the forum to put this, but since Tim is reading these, I was wondering how the Data Base idea was going. I have a couple of thoughts. If we can get past the "Defensive Mood" and put it all out there as to every dang thing our trucks do, and what it took to get it fixed, it seems to me would only make the product better and that's what we all want.

1 - When new people come here they seem to be looking for answers that they don't get from FMC or the Dealership. They are venting frustrated etc.
2 - They are looking to buy a Ford truck and want info.
3 - They are problem solvers and want to help.
4 - Maybe are putting off mowing the lawn---nothing wrong with that.

Now my idea, I am fairly new here and this may be going on elsewhere. This goes along with Tim's data base idea. This has worked really well in my own "Factory Engineering & Service" experience.
Compile a list, checklist or whatever
* Year (build date)
* engine/transmission
* Odometer reading
* Symptoms
* Warm/Cold
* What was fixed
* Most important the cause

I just think guys like "firetail98" would be happy to come here get answers and go back armed with facts.

Just some early morning thoughts....still waiting for Service Writer to return my call from yesterday.....oh well I will try again today...still waiting again

Who promised the "new flash"
Ford or the dealer?

Working in this industry, no one promises anything, thay way nothing like that can happen.

Paclik...
having a wee bit of a background in the IT industry I offered to put all the data together about a year ago IIRC? only if someone would give me a formatted extract of the entries as they were collected...
Tim opened a special thread for just that reason and data started pouring in... and is probably still there...

thought we were going to get a download, but it never happened...
and sorry...
I ain't gonna play data entry for THOUSANDS of items that I would rather not even read
so there it stands (or lays )
soknow you just gonna haveto read and search !!!

When you change/drain your oil, you do not get the full 15 quarts out because some is left up in the engine (i.e. injector pump, etc.). I'm guessing about a quart. When you add back the 15 quarts as specified in the manual, you are in fact overfilling the engine. You now have 16 quarts in the motor. When you go to change the oil the next time, you will have 1 quart more coming out than you did the last time, hence the Engineer's statement.

This is one of the reasons we have figured out to only add 13.5 quarts at each oil change.

Next time you change your oil, check to see how much came out versus the 13.5 you put in the time before. After recording this a couple of oil changes, it should start being the same. If after 2 or three times you suddenlly have a quart more, then my hypothesis will be proven incorrect.
according to Blackstone anything more than 2% fuel in your oil could be harmful or indicate a problem

Makes sense to me, One quart is 7% in 14 quarts of oil. Can't be good for the engine.

No way!. I have over 35,000 on my early 03. I change oil evey 5,000 miles max. I check the oil regularly. It has "never" gained oil. If your engine is gaining oil, there is a problem with your injectors or seals.

As for capacity, there is a quart that stays in the high pressure oil reservoir in the top of the engine. Another 1/2 quart stays in the high pressure rails and pump. If it didn't and drained out, you would have a lot of cranking to get started.

I just think guys like "firetail98" would be happy to come here get answers and go back armed with facts.

Problem is someone comes in the door swinging, then after much debate the facts start coming out. As in this case we are in every way trying to help.

First say Hello and I have a problem. Here are the facts with my OASIS to back me up. A real helpful hint is to be specific and not recieved as a troll.

A great idea maxium except most new users are not going to know this and by the time they get to this site their hair is standing on end and on fire! Having been one of those newbies I can relate... It took a couple of posts and a spanking from Tim for me to realize how this particular site works. What needs to be shown is some tolerance for obvious newbies or at least some hesitation before pulling the Troll trigger.....

I agree. At the top of the forum we have READ FIRST that seems to be ignored.

I am sure that admin is capable of placing a "I accept / I decline" box at the beginning of the forums for new responders / members...much like software copyright legal stuff. Would probably need to be universal FTE application.

That way newbies would have to at least pretend that they read the guidelines before being allowed to post.

But hey, I am obviously not a computer guy....just a thought.
