Telemetry Technician....

When I met people, they say "that's great". In most cases, no one has a clue what my job is.....

I kinda like it that way. Saves "talking shop" at a party.

Wouldn't that conversation be all 1's and 0's?

Be proud. I am but a simple planer operator. I don't get invited to the party.

Nope....

I work with radio and network communications for supervisory control and data acquistion. It's for remote monitoring/control of process control as it relates to Water Treatment Plants, waste water liftstations, sewage treatment plants and re-use water systems.

I do component level repair of telemetry modules. Fiber optic networking for real-time process control communications, installation/repair. I troubleshoot radio communications problems, 200mhz. 400mhz and 800/900mhz trunking systems, in addition to tuning these radios. I program PLCs and design command and control infrastructure. I create human machine interface programming for graphics, MODBUS and SQL databases. System administration for RedHat LINUX telemetry servers, also.

So that's a taste of what someone at a party "gets" want they ask what a "Telemetry Tech" does. Most get confused and move on to another subject.

It's a fun job. And sometimes it is easier to have the conversation in 1's and 0's.. And everyone is invited, besides, we all own Fords!

I've been in telecommunications power for 43 years, but I'll get the hang of. Just give me a little time.

Construction Engineer

After 20 years in Media (Film/TV) as everything from a Gofer to a Producer, I finally got disgusted with the lack of quality and pride in work and product that I went back to school at 40 and got my BSCE and a minor in Structural Engineering.

Presently I build new Schools, Hospitals and Municipal Structures (Firehouses, etc) and rehab existing structures like Schools (most are over 100 years old).

Unlike most of today's products-my work will outlive me and hopefully people will benefit from what I do.

I'm an Educational Assistant...at least I think I am. In October of '04 I started this job as volunteer at school for special needs kids. It went from there to working on an on-call basis which was quite regular. This past Sept they asked me to be there daily. After Christmas they decided they didn't need me daily but would call me when they needed me. I haven't worked since the beginning of January. My background is actually in municipal recreation so if anyone in southern Ontario knows of such a job please let me know. Thanks.

Civil Engineer / Land Surveyor. I've been the "Director of Engineering" of local operations for a nation-wide developer/builder for the past year and a half. Before that I was the Vice President / Director of Engineering for a small private-practice civil engineering & land surveying firm, where I loyally worked for 15 years. Got tired of all the long hours and stress from all the responsibility and quit. Now, I work LESS hours and make MORE money, too!

I'm an Industrial Engineer on the Commercial Airplane side of the house directly supporting (from the Fabrication Division) the 737 program. Help to ensure newly design parts can be built and help the 4 million parts arrive when they are needed on the moving line. We currently assembly 28 737's per month in Renton Washington. Primary concern is the newest 737 the MMA which is designed for the US Army as it's newest sub chaser. Retired from the US Army in the 1988 and served with many fine units in my 22-year career. One tour in Vietnam with A Troop 3/4 Cav, 25th Infantry Division..YooHaw!
