bighoss550, I understand where you are coming from, but the owners manual says the oil has to have the specific rating, not meet the criteria for that rating. Amsoil may meet the criteria, but it does not have the rating. The ONLY reason I bring this up is that I feel when people ask a question they need to be able to make an informed decision.
Choctaw Bob, I don't think anyone was attacking anyone else here. Everyone is entitled to share their opinions on BOTH sides of any thread/debate. The more opinions, facts, and information that are posted, the more information people have to make their own decision. The attacking tends to go in the reverse on this topic. A lot of Amsoil users get offended that someone finds anything negative about Amsoil. From all I've read, people are only sharing opinions and information. Someone shouldn't be flamed for sharing their opinion and information about a subject. Posts on BOTH sides of this debate get out of line, not just one side. Sure, the same people post against Amsoil when this comes up, but the same people also post for Amsoil and often get rude to those members who post anything negative about Amsoil.
There has been a continious outbreak of attacks on numerous threads by the nut cases on people who have no idea what is happening or why. You should know because you have participated in most of the arguments. I don't give a flip about the oil. What I care about is the wholesale attacks on people over the brand of oil they perfer. Why can't some people let others discuss a product without jumping in the middle of their discussion? You say that people have the right to give their opinion. I agree but with that right also comes the responsibility to have respect for the rights and feelings of others.
I told Tim that I should stay out of discussions like this for the reason that nut cases and crude unmannered people will never change because they don't have any respect for themselves much less others.
Bob, you make some good points. I want to reemphasize though that the attacks come from both sides. Technically these oil threads should be in the Oil and Lubrication forum anyway. Maybe if they were, there would be fewer extreme posts. Some of those guys scare me with their knowledge of oil.
To All: Can't we all just get along??? I like a good debate, but we ALL need to think before we post. Insults make the person who says them look moronic and insulting responses aren't any better. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't post it (and pretend that the person you are saying it to is 6'8" and 350 lbs).
At the risk for a newbe here... I am on many other boards (wood working and such) and the culture is just the same (craftsman vs. delta and so on). I love reading opinions on a issue (even strong ones). But as soon as the multiple "!!!!" start flying it becomes non-informitive and personel. No value to anyone but the sender.
I'm going to risk this question, not sure I have seen the answer (and yes i have used Ams. in past cars, but never in my SD's yet)
Do the Synth oil manufacturers say you can extend the oil change time or just that it will perform better within the same time frame for the 6.0?
(my small attempt at returning to a discussion of the issue)

That is my take on the subject. This doesn't even need to be in the 6.0 forum, it needs to be in the Oil and Lubrication forum.

The oil manufacturers hardly ever comment on oil change interval. Because the enviroment the oil is subject to dictates oil life. If you have any question about your oil, send a sample to Blackstone and they will tell you if it is breaking down.

I agree with you John. I have never been the first to flame. I have decided not to sit still for it any longer.
Seems like you were the first to flame in this thread. See post #4.
Wrong again as usual. It just seems like you can't stay out of any discussion that doesn't concern you unless you think you are one of the "nut cases" I was referring to. Are you a nut case Jeb?
I believe you should be able to use anything you want without some nut making a life or death case out of it.
One thing I know for sure, BigHoss550 is one of the smartest guys on this Forum. A lot smarter than some of the nut cases this thread will bring out.
I don't think this was inflamatory either. Seems more like a friendly welcome and a warning for "things to come." Discussing oil and air intakes seems to be worse than discussing politics for some reason. I also agree that BigHoss550 is one of the smartest guys on this forum, although we occasionally disagree. Of course, some of the guys who post in the Oil and Lubrication forum know more about oil than anyone I've ever known. That's why I said if these posts were over there a lot of the non-technical/non-factual comments would be put to rest immediately. Some of those guys I think even have recipes that include motor oil, like Tim's recipe with Stanadyne Performance Formula!

Jeb this is calling people out.............we really don't want to do this.
OIL and Air Filters…MY GOODNESS you would think we are talking politicks.
My view on this....there will be some ROE’s real soon on oil threads in the 6.0 area….Jeb that part is not for you it will be for all of us….ME too
Now a comment on oil brands, it seems that all of us have our own preferences.
Choice what a great thing.
All agree and can accept what each other runs…until it come to the “A” oil……NO more, every time that “oil” is BROUGHT into a thread it gets out of control…..hum…..guess where this is going…more later…less chill

I'll tell you whats funny is that so many people who are willing to put performance boosting chips, and other parts that clearly void your warranty are fighting over oil.
tcbaldmtn, welcome. You will see all kinds of contradictions. People who gripe because Ford stopped with Pilot injection, say the 6.0L is too loud (it's a diesel) and those that modify the exhaust and love the whistle of the turbo. Go figure.
BTW warranty is another sure way to get a flame war started.
