Hi. First time posting here and proud owner of a 2004 Ford F-250 XLT.
I'm not interested in the SS. Don't really care how fast it goes. If I can't get a sheet of plywood in it or haul anything with it, I'm not interested.
Now for the Titan. I don't get where they got the 9600 GVWR. Not possible for a 1/2 ton truck (if it's really a 1/2 ton that is). Then I heard a local radio commercial claiming it can carry 9100lbs in the bed. Sorry folks, the BS meter went off big time on that one. So I can drop a 4 1/2 ton something in the back of that truck and the frame won't bend. Right? Sorry, WRONG!
Remember a while back Nissan was thinking about getting out of trucks all together? Remember last year's "Nissan Frontier" truck commercial that showed the frame twisting on slightly rough terrain? After all that, you think I would even consider a Nissan?
I'm a proud owner of an '03 Harley F150. On a few occassions I had the opportunity to race (on a track) the SS (two different ones). First time, the owner didn't know what he was doing and I smoked him pretty badly. The second SS I raced had a decent driver and it was a close race, but I still won and would have kept winning all night. As far as straight line performance, the HD will spank the SS. And that is with me having 3.73s and the SS with 4.10s, as far as I know. With better gearing, it wouldn't even be a race for me. So what does this all mean? Nothing.
The SS and the HD are two completely different trucks. One is meant to be fast and still do what a truck is supposed to do. And the other is meant to be fast and look like a truck. The only thing the HD is supposed to tow is a bike, in my opinion. And that is all I want it to do. Chevy did drop the ball with the performance issue on the SS, but who really cares? It is still a great all around truck. Does it deserve to carry the SS nameplate? Maybe or maybe not. Just look at the other SS models and make up your mind.
I think my '89 thunderbird could outrun an impala SS (those things are jokes).
Well at least I can take the SS through a little bit of mud and not worry about getting stuck. If I wanted a racing machine, I would find a typhoon or a syclone kicking around and take the lightning to school. Or maybe I would talk to lingenfelter and get them to hook me up with some real horsepower.

Umm...sorry to break the news to you but John has passed away. But if you're still talking to him in some Whoopi Goldberg, Patrick Swayze kinda way that's cool too!
Supercharge the norma 5.4 and you will eat the SS no prob. The lightning does not need AWD, it gets enough traction as it is, and Ford probobly does not want the extra weight of the AWD.
Supercharge an SS and you could smoke a lightning, so whats your point?
I think Whipple is making a kit for the SS. Good for approx. 450 hp. You'll need to further tweak a L to match that but with $10,000+ price difference, it shouldn't be a problem. Kind of wonder if the awd system will take the extra power??? Regardless, I like both of them equally.
