Ferrari have revealed that their 2013 car will be called the F138. The machine, the 59th single-seater the Scuderia have built for Formula One racing, derives its name from a combination of the current year and the number of cylinders in its engine.
Ferrari say that the name pays tribute to the V8 engine, which is being replaced next year as the sport’s standard power-unit configuration by V6 turbo engines.
The F138 will be launched on Friday at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters in Italy. It will then be transported to Jerez in Spain for next week's first pre-season test of 2013, where Felipe Massa will give the car its track debut.
Newly-recruited test driver Pedro de la Rosa will take over testing duties from Massa on day four of the first session, with 2012 championship runner-up Fernando Alonso getting his first run in the new car at the second test in Barcelona from February 19.
I'd say yes, that's right. I always call it 100 cubic inches because it is a nice round number.
And it makes it a nice rough conversion, ie: Three liters is about 200 cubic inches etc.
I was hoping F1 would go for a 2.4 or 2.5 liter. Which is still small for a freaking RACE car. Or, go even larger and scrap the turbos.
But given that they are going with the turbo I wish they would run them on ethanol.
Wasn't it Ferrari, a while back, that was happy that their V6 Turbo was better all around, fuel consumption, weight and performance was better then the V8 ? Maybe it was a another team, anyway, what changed ?
Welcome back to the F1 gang...you are spot on Ferrari supposedly has a very good package all around, and very road worthy relevant....

the change was because they the FIA want F1 to be more Road driven ..go figure ...so we can all go by a car and say ...look it is just like an F1.......hehe...joking aside there are so many great thing that have come out of F1 for all cars
I was looking up close to the nose for the tiny air inlet that is supposed to channel air to the front wing ( left & right side ) for down force and to the cockpit and if not mistaken to the rear wing for left & right down force. Is this in response to RB's flexible front wing ?

Reason: Added the word " tiny "
Most definitely Worthy of the Ferrari name, glad to see it !!
After enlarging the picture of the front, I magnified it and I did not see the small nose air intake that the 2013 McLaren launch has, are they not using it or did I look in the wrong place ? Referring to the small air intake on the nose piece that diverts air to the **** pit and front L & R wing and to the rear wing. I thought there were to be air intakes on the rear also. Did I read about this incorrectly ?
