Love what they're doing, and they deserve credit for it, but (IMO) their hamburgers are really awful.
You are in a minority. The In and Out places here are always packed. I'm sure if the hamburgers were awful, they would not be so popular. Just my opinion of course, I have no evidence to back this up.
Well, the truck saga continues. I took the truck to America's Tires, and it started up fine. However, when the mechanic tried to start it to take it into the bay, it would not start in Park. So, I told him to try neutral. It worked. I then called the shop that did the work and told them what happened. He told me to let him think about it and he would call back. I told him I won't take the truck in until today anyway so that is fine. I will post the issue in the 2004-2008 forum and see if I get any new ideas to try. Tires are on, and I did manage to get the truck over 40mph on the way home, too many red lights to go any faster. maybe tomorrow I will be able to get it to 50 when I go to the Steadfast Youth meeting. Seems to be better though, although I did expect it to ride smoother, but that didn't happen. It is a truck, and a 4x4 at that, so I will just have to live with it.

What burger do you like?
I don't like fast food burgers for the most part. I prefer homemade. Thick. Juicy. A lot more meat. Lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions...... Restaurants that serve the style of burger that I like charge twice as much. A $15 fast food meal turns into a $30+ dining experience with tip.
I like the In-n-Out business model where they pay employees more, charge less, then make their profit in volume. It's still not cheap. Just under $13 +tax for a meal package in San Francisco. That's still slightly less than McDonald's. In-n-Out pays $25+ hourly wage for workers. That's $50,000 if a full time employee. McDonald's pays minimum wage.
In-n-Out was founded in the 40's with 1 hamburger stand. There' are about 400 locations. All privately owned and operated by the founding family. It's what can happen when you start a small business.
McDonald's was founded in the 40's with 1 hamburger stand. Over 40,000 locations globally. A publicly traded company which is franchised. It's what can happen when you start a small business.
I agree with homemade burgers vs fast food burgers. I can add whatever I want, and get bigger patties, and still have it come out cheaper than any fast-food place. I have never eaten at In N Out, but even back in my Wienerschnitzel days I knew they paid their employees better than any other fast-food place.
In Arizona they call them der weinersnitzel , same style Aframe building with a yellow roof , couldn’t mis it , they were the fast food over the old style Taco Bell brick building with the known brick arches , until wataburger was established , nothing better than ranch raised, no growth harmon, free range grass fed Beef , my marbling science has been proven year after year .
I think that only kids like the fast food patties found at McDonald's and Burger King. Same way kids like all of the other kid food items that a lot of adults do not like. That's why casual restaurants have kids menus. Same way kids rarely ask for adult food like oysters.
In San Francisco, we have neighborhoods. With neighborhood businesses. Butchers. Produce stands. Fish mongers. Etc. Etc. I grew up in the area which was, and still is, Italian and Chinese. No chain restaurant. No fast food. No big box store. Not even a supermarket. To this day, there's no Safeway in the neighborhood.
For most people, it's hard to imagine not having a Target, Walmart, or Costco. All of the places we saw advertised on TV didn't even seem real. There were 6 or 8 pizzarias with different styles of pizza from different regions of Italy. No Pizza Hut. Every Chinese restaurant served regional food. No Panda Express. We got sandwiches from delicatessens that actually made the salami. We got ravioli from a ravioli shop. Every loaf of bread was fresh from a bakery. As a kid, it was a real adventure to leave the neighborhood and go across town to Sears.

So the basic symptom is that it doesn't crank or start? No crank, no start? Then you shift the gear selector, and sometimes it will start in neutral? But that doesn't always work?
It could be the neutral safety switch. It could be shift cable. It could be the bushings. It could just be a simple final adjustment of the cable fitting onto the selector arm on the switch. It could be that the switch needs to be correctly aligned at neutral. It could be the gear selector end in the cab, and all of the adjustments and bushings at that end. It could be the part in the steering column that reads your key's RFID chip. Or the body control module which operates PATS is going out. Maybe the fuel pump driver module is going out, or there's a bad wiring harness to the module. Starter motors are known to go bad................ Maybe it's not mechanical or parts related, and it's electrical. It could be a lot of things. You won't believe how many things can cause a "no crank, no start" condition.
I hate to be the guy to say that nobody online in a forum will be able to help much. Everyone could throw ideas up. But nobody can do a hands on diagnostic. While the mechanic next door is convenient, it may be time to find another mechanic to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. Maybe diagnostic work with "fresh eyes", or someone who has more in depth knowledge of Ford systems. Fresno is a big enough city that there should be a mechanic who has worked at the dealership, has factory training, and has Ford diagnostic experience.
The good news is that with a new neutral safety switch, and a new cable, you've eliminated those two items.
I remember going to der Wienershnitzel in San Jose on Camden Ave. It's still there after all these years, but they dropped the "der." I love the diaper dogs.
Well. First, I like the way I make them. Not just plain hamburger, but I zing 'em up with a special mixture.
Second, close to home, is any of the burgers they make at Alice's. And they pay well above minimum wage. I think over $20/hour.
Third is a little place up in Hopland called "Burger My Way". They make outstanding burgers and we stop there whenever we trek up north. It's a little hole-in-the-wall place and I think the workers are the owners.
When I worked at Wienerschnitzel they had already dropped the "Der".
I agree that the cable connector end that attaches to the trans may not have been adjusted while the trans and gear selector were in Park. I will take the truck back tomorrow after Bible study and talk with the mechanic who did the work. I might be able to talk to him tonight on the way to work if I leave early enough, and they don't leave early.
Well, one problem is fixed. I was able to get to 50mph twice with no death wobble. The truck starts in neutral but still not in park. I am debating whether or not to just live with it or take it back to the shop. However, something else may tip my hand. The gear selector is hard to switch between gears, like something is binding. And I do want to ask the mechanic how he adjusted the cable end, so it looks like I will have to take it back.
