I’d check the rubber donut between the front cover and intake manifold

I thought only air goes through that? Also if that was leaking coolant could it travel to the passenger side of the engine cause the valley on the drivers side is bone dry and that intake doughnut is on the drivers side no?

Thanks 🙂

Well I think the leak is more substantial than I previously thought. This is what I found when I got home from work today so guess I'll be working on the truck this weekend instead of going camping 😐

It's the coolant return from the EGR cooler to the front cover, completing one of the loops that starts inside the front cover on the passenger's side of the block and goes up to the oil cooler housing via a hole in the block.

The major points of leaks that would come off the back of the block like that are the front cover donut, the EGR cooler hose (/reroute if deleted), the nipple cap those connect to on the oil cooler housing, and the EGR cooler degas line from the intake to the degas bottle.

I had a similar "leak when freezing cold" only, it was a flattened o-ring between EGR cooler and intake. The little small nub outlet on the EGR cooler that has no bolts, and goes up into the bottom of the intake where you then bolt the exhaust gas connection together. Looks like you have a bigger problem now though.

The majority of the leak being on the passenger side I would start by following the flow from oil cooler housing -> nipple cap -> EGR hose -> EGR/intake -> intake/front cover donut.

My truck sits on a slight incline and it looks like the leak is moving from the front of the engine to the back so perhaps it is the front cover doughnut seal then. Also there's no egr cooler in play fwiw.

I guess I'll be taking everything off the top of the engine this weekend to get a good look at where the leak is originating and hopefully it's only one spot. If it is the doughnut how hard is that to replace?

Also this is the cover to intake doughnut seal correct?

Thank you btw 🙂

Disconnect the CAC tube at the elbow and the fuel line bolt to the manifold. Loosen all the intake bolts; you'll need a flat ratcheting box wrench for the front one on the driver's side. Since the intake gaskets are reusable, you only have to lift the intake enough to flip out the o-ring and put in a new one.

Also wouldn't hurt to pull the belt, or at least set the kick stand on the tensioner.

Take off the alternator. I totally forgot that. Thanks, Chris.

I’m on painkillers right now. Screwed my back with the Christmas trees the other night. Brain is foggy as hell.

I did notice you weren't posting for a few days. Figured you were busy with the Christmas tree thing.

Man that sucks. Back injuries always take forever to get better. Have you ever tried Voltaren and/or peppermint essential oil on swollen joints or pulled muscles?

What's the flow route out of the oil cooler with your system?

A j-hook EGR delete would still have the nipple cap seal at the oil cooler base, a hose, and an o-ring in the bottom of the intake manifold.

IPR Research is a solid bar so no hose, but removes the cap and has o-ring seals on both ends.

BPD is either a hose to a j-hook delete or a hose run somewhere.
