After a busy morning, we were able to enjoy a cool afternoon around Bravo Compound. The birds seem think it might be spring. The pair of honkers are hanging out around the pond, The Blue Heron showed up at the pond an hour ago. Not sure if he’s looking for little fishies or frogs. As loud as it was last night, we certainly wouldn’t miss a few frogs.
Golden Eagle flew over, another big eagle size passed by, but I was looking into the sun and couldn’t make it out. A couple of dark blue with white stripes on the wings, look to be about magpie size but squak like jays were making dive bomb runs into the river imitating Osprey, of which a couple of those passed over. They might be looking at setting up house in a Ponderosa by the river. They sure got pissed when we were on the river bank near the guest house. They refused to sit still for pictures too.
The little birds swarmed the kitchen porch. The Wardens bird feeder is up. Nut hatches, wrens, some multicolored things, gray and brown little ones and some that were a brownish fading to black head with a yellow stripe in the middle of the head.
The rhubarb we transplanted last fall from the old farm and ranch has apparently survived the winter. We were worried it might not like the altitude or mountain soil. Then the cold of winter, any sign of survival disappeared. We were hopeful, but not optimistic. This afternoon we checked the rhubarb patch and plant some potatoes. Our “crossed the plains on the covered wagons, Oregon Trail Rhubarb” has in deed survived. In just under a week we’ve had several shoots- leaves break ground!
Obviously have some sage rat problems to eradicate.

Todays project is sanding the subfloor to remove mold, then treat and seal. Will also cut more holes in the wall to remove damaged drywall. Fun day for sure.
Even the coyote looked like a drowned rat this morning.
Have to run back into La Pine to Bi-Mart in a little bit. Probably won't do any good, but I'm curious as to what their computer shows my Hunting/Fishing status as. The last several years, I've had a Pioneer License and all that goes with that. This year, was no exception. Got the Pioneer Combination and all of that out of the way so I could fish in January. Not that I can fish right now anyway.
A few days ago I "synced" the ODFW app on the phone. Thought something was funny as it told me it was up to date with no need to update. I hadn't updated since around the middle of March. So, last week, I started to try and get my controlled hunt apps in. Every time I select a controlled hunt app, I would get a popup saying I needed to purchase an Annual Hunting License in order to select the controlled hunt application. Haven't been able to do anything else. The Pioneer License Status has a green field and check mark by it, but not options and no profile display for it. No option for a Sports Pac or anything else except the General Annual Hunting License and the Annual Anglers Tag or Combination Anglers Tag.
Anyway, unless Bi-Mart can pull something up on their Agent's Computer, I'm SOL until Monday morning when I can get ahold of ODFW.
