Go down to page 2 of the following link. It's the Tech Folder found at the top of this forums list. Look under Misc Information & Modifications and click on PSD Diagnosis On The Cheap -

I just answered a similar question on the Excursion forum.

Torque Pro is a good program to use as well, but it can be much more picky and "sensitive". Forscan is not pretty to look at, but very reliable.

I will check it out, go to town tomorrow and get what I need, then let you know what it says. I will get an oem cps, too. (All the abbreviations on these forums just kill me.) I appreciate your advice. Please tune in tomorrow for the next episode...

There is a list of abbreviations, acronyms and terms at the link below. It is not 100%, but it is fairly good resource.

That is the most usefull information I have yet received on a truck forum! This should be an attachment to every thread! It's the english-greasemonkey dictionary! I love it! This would have saved me hours of google searches when I was truck shopping.

Coincidentally, it is included in the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder which is a sticky thread at the top of this sub-forum.

Having learned many abbreviations in my seemingly endless search for a diesel truck, I find that knowing and using them makes me feel like I actually know something about it, when in fact I am just as clueless as ever! Most of the things I can name in a truck I would not recognise if you handed them to me, nor be able to find under the hood. But I can throw out 3-letter combos like a pro!

Is there a way to test the cps? It is a 3 wire connection, magnet switch. Can I run a continuity test on the sensor circuit and trigger it with metal or a magnet to see if is functional?

Later models but I'm not sure how late.

Avoid dealer at all costs, more often than not it's a costly mistake.

I had a particularly hard time with the acronyms but now I can visualize the part by it. I have to think hard about what it stands for but I know what part is being referenced instantly.

My 2001 has a build date of 12/00 and the tachometer does not move while cranking.

So... I got a cheap plug-in non bluetooth code reader, as I could not find any bluetooth in my small town. It says it is powered by the vehicle, but it does not turn on when I plug it in. Any suggestions? Is there a fuse for that?

Nevermind, found the fuse. #12, 20amp.
Code reader says no codes stored. Truck still almost starts but not quite.

My research suggests that there are many possible causes for my power loss turned no-start. Do any of you guys (or gals) know which of the possibilities would not cause any codes?
Or perhaps I need a different code reader. I have read some don't work with these trucks, for some reason.
I am about to go try to climb my old, damaged *** on top of that rediculously hard to reach engine to find and remove the ipv (injection pressure valve, I believe) to clean it and check the solenoid. I would welcome any suggestions, as I am just making a barely educated guess, now.
Thanks.

I removed my fuel filter, thinking I might need to remove the fuel bowl to get to that ipv, and found some rusty black gritty sludge on the bottom of my fuel bowl. Is that normal?
