I mentioned that the wiring and components under the dash appear new and I am suspicious of possible flood damage. Could this be the reason my obdii adapter and app do not get the readings they should? Maybe not wired correctly? I was about to go tear it all apart, but may just be making more trouble for myself if nobody thinks it is relevant. I kinda thought there would be some sort of response on the matter.
Also, can anyone tell me where the IDM is located and what it looks like?

Might be flood damage, but it might just be newly replaced parts that you just found.
I would not tear into anything too much quite yet.
The OBDII and app issue might just be a setting, some of those scanners and apps can be finicky. I carry a USB scan tool and windows 7 laptop with me when I travel with the truck. Simply because I know Forscan is trustworthy and the last thing I want to do is troubleshoot a scan tool when I am trying to fix the truck.
IDM is above the driver side wheel well liner mounted to the fender. It looks like a rectangle automotive model. Maybe just loosen the liner in order to gain access to the IDM, but I would not disturb it or the connections just yet.
Found a video on the idm, so scratch that. I have another breakdown to deal with this afternoon. Washing machine! At least I know something about those. I won't keep you posted on that bit of fun.
Your going to have to take a breathe. I can almost guarantee you, that truck is not very far from running. Please do not tear anything out for parts. Flood damage or not. It was running.
[QUOTE=rjdj1186;19127273]Grateful beyond words.
Everything looks new. Throttle still has sticker on side, wiring wrap is tight and dark black, wiring supports are bright white and pliable,...
Up until a couple of weeks ago, I all but put a cot under my dash I was spending so much time under there chasing the "4x4 not working" issue. Fuse boxes, GEMs, the whole smash. Anyway, I was surprised how "clean" it was under there, given the age of the truck. I wouldn't say pristine, but aside from some dust, it didn't look bad.
Best I can tell, Ford was covering/offsetting the costs for fuse box and GEM changeouts. Given the date codes on them - 9/2001, mine is an e99 - that stuff has been under there for awhile.

Don't overlook the trouble shooting procedure linked in my signature, it is a good plan to work off of.
I have that one bookmarked from before, but much of it is gibberish to me. Maybe the guys coming down this weekend can understand it better. They also use different abbreviations for stuff, for example they call the cps a cmp, adding to my overall confusion from information overload.
Grateful beyond words.

fair enough, thanks. I am not sure where I would put a cot anyway... my torso barely fits in there and I get pain in my everything when I am there!

I am happy to comply. Under the dash is not a comfortable place to be. As for taking a breath... I did that for 2 months after my baby girl was born in my living room. Now I am ready to get this thing figured out! I like my truck, just not as a yard ornament! Plus my father is tired of me borrowing his Colorado.
But perhaps you are right, maybe I should take a half day off from it and chop firewood or some similarly mindless activity. My brain hurts.
BTW, washer problem was a $6 motor coupler. Wish the truck was that easy to figure out.

Let me rephrase. I wish the truck was that easy for me to figure out.
The washer took all of 15 minutes. I spent I don't even know how many hours perched atop and laying under that truck, and countless days of reading how-to articles and forum threads, and watching youtube videos.
I am very happy to have Ajbrown208 and his friend coming out to help, and I hope they do figure it out in 15 minutes. But I wish they didn't have a reason to come all that way to help me, out of the kindness of their hearts. It's a 2.5 hr drive one way for those guys. I would much rather they were coming out to hunt, or shoot guns, or hang out and drink beer, or just about anything other than bail me out of a jam. I am not used to needing help, and I wouldn't have dreamed of asking this of them. That they volunteered unasked just blows me away. But I still wish it wasn't necessary.
We all need a hand from time to time. Paul (AllAboutMPG) drive 3 hours one way to help my wife and I out when our steering gear exploded just as we pulled into a campground a few years ago.
We fed him warm meals and I gave him a spare engine cover after he commented on the one on my truck. He was a great person to meet and work with. We have stayed in touch and we hope to see him again at a GA Meet and Greet one day.
Hopefully the fellas will open the hood and spot the problem right away and then you guys can BS the rest of the visit.
I am very curious to find out what the fix action is!

I feel ya and would think the same in your situation, but believe me when I say these are GOOD guys here and I'll bet they even will enjoy the trip, as I would. This is a solid brotherhood. You can still drink beer brother LOL. Keep us posted!
