Just came across this thread so I'm a bit late to the discussion. A friend had told me about the card and how great it was over paying full price. I guess it is. But....
I pull a fifth wheel. So I just disconnect when stopped for the night and grab a tank full (AUX plus main is 71 gallons although never is that empty) at a close fuel station found via the GasBuddy app and we can grab a bite to eat someplace at the same time if we want. Always a hugh savings over any truck stop. And I use a Bank of America card with a 5% discount on fuel (your savings may vary based on your BoA finances). That kind of savings adds up.
Just a quick look at any truck stop compared to almost any independent or national fuel chain close by shows the truck stop is almost always 30 to 40 cents higher.
So, for me, in a fifth wheel, the card isn't any big deal. If I still had my class A I might feel different. But I switched back to a fifth wheel for savings and so far it is working quite well. Not saying one is better than the other, just reporting my viewpoint.
I understand your reasons for not going with a fuel card and I am glad it works for you. I will NEVER give BoA one penny of my money for anything. That is for personal reasons and I feel very strongly about it. If they offered 50% savings on fuel I would tell them to stick it up their rear.
As for marked up prices at commercial fuel stops, this has not been my experience in traveling cross country for nearly 15 years now. As a matter of fact, the truck stops we see are usually a penny or two less than the smaller Exon, Chevron, etc. Again, this is our experience.
When we travel with the 5th wheel, we bring a second vehicle. We use it for city driving, mountain trails, exploring or just running errands. So, the 5th wheel stays connected to the truck until we arrive someplace we are staying more than 24 hours. If less than 24 hours, we lower the landing gear, but leave the truck and trailer hitched up.
I look forward to using the TSD fuel card for the 100's of thousands of miles we will accumulate over the next 40 years of traveling this great country of ours.
I received my call as well. The calling number came up as "restricted" so I didn't answer it. A voice message was left and that chick talks FAST! I called them back and should have my card soon.
I cancelled my Pilot/Flying J RV Plus card the other day. I have not had the chance to fill up with the TSD card yet, but I downloaded the app and looked around at the map and the different menus for a few minutes. I will be taking the truck into the mountains of north GA in a couple of weeks and will have the chance to fill up (75 gallon capacity on the truck) when I return from that trip.
I have seen there are a few more videos on YouTube about it. Really seems like a win-win for us and I am grateful to have the opportunity to save so much at the commercial diesel pumps which is where I like to fill up anyway.
When you fellas get a chance to use the card, post up with your thoughts on the process and I will do the same.
In my area, the pump price at truck stops is higher than other gas stations, but the discounted price is much lower, definitely better than the 5% BOA card. It's also nice being able to fill the DEF tank right at the pump.
We've used the TSD card for 4 fill ups now and it's not a difficult process. A few extra menu items at the pump. We have the charges drafted from a separate checking account and just transfer as needed.
I FINALLY had the chance to use my TSD fuel card at the Love's up the interstate from my house. I saved 47 center per gallon on diesel fuel which brought the price down to $2.28. That is a win in my book! I didn't needed about 28 gallons this fill up to bring both tanks to 100% and I saved just over $15...
Some people say that they can get cheap fuel prices if they search or use discount locations like Costco or Sam's. That is great to hear, but that is not how I shop for fuel when traveling. I shop for fuel by the fuel gauge being 1/4 - 1/2 full (75 gallon capacity) and I need someplace convenient to pull my 12,000 lbs worth of trailer and cargo into. You WILL NOT find me searching for any "good deals" with my trailer. I will be stopping at the nearest Love's, Pilot or Flying J as I always have done and always will do.
To each their own, but I look forward to saving thousands of dollars over the course of traveling tens of thousands of miles cross country with my dinosaur 7.3L truck and 5th wheel trailer.
I have signed up for the program. My question is, I know that you have to get the diesel at the diesel pumps (not the up front pumps) to get the discount. So if you aren't towing are you still using the big rig lanes to get your diesel?

Yes, I use the big rig Lanes no matter what. They may not like it, but I am not in their way long and for $20 a tank I don’t care!

@johndeerefarmer simple answer is yes. Like Caribou350 below, I use the commercial truck lanes anytime I am filling up the pickup anyway. There is normally not a line and the nozzle flows much faster in order to fill up the 75 gallon capacity I have on my truck. I disagree with Caribou350 on one thing though, I think the commercial truck drivers don't mind us filling up as long as we move when we are done, just like they do. Think about it, they have to wait for 200+ gallons of fuel or 75 gallons of fuel to be pumped in before they can start filling up...
My brother is a long haul truck driver and has been for more than 10 years. He said if he pulls into a fuel stop and all the lanes are full, but there is a pickup in one of them, he will pick that lane because he knows their fill up will be quicker than the others.
Although, just remember to pull forward when you are finished and the caps are back on. Then you can run into the store or use the restroom like you normally would.

On a side note, when I filled up the last time and wrote about it a couple of posts above I checked my EFS app for the charge. It was there with all of the desired information before I could get the truck stopped 25 ft from the pump to let the commercial driver in behind me. Great service that I plan to use all the time. We already have 2 camping trips scheduled for February and April and I will be using my EFS card and am looking to save $100 or more... That just about pays 50% of the camping spot fees...

No brainer...
Thanks.
Towing to Colorado from Texas I usually stop 4 times for fuel and it's at Pilot/Flying J and Loves so I can use the card there
We also have a Loves about 10 miles north of my home so it might be beneficial to drive there to fill up.
I do the same thing now instead of driving 20 minutes into town. We live in the country and I can drive 20 minutes the other direction and be at Love's just off the interstate. So, my pre-trip fuel fill up station has been moved to the Love's instead of the grocery store in town.
