The SB pamphlets they had with the clutch mentioned the break in before towing. Suggests 500 miles of city driving. So basically a whole lot of shifting b4 ya tow
Ahh ok, Thanks. I gave the mechanic sealed boxes so there would be no issue with parts missing so I haven't seen any paperwork that was in them. 500 miles of city driving is alot! I guess camping this weekend is out, will have to use it as my daily driver to go to work in to get it broke in.
Yeah I only had a week after my clutch job till I was scheduled to pick up our new 5th wheel. Drove the very long not in the right direction way towards home after work for an extra hour a day to stack up the miles.
I drove about 150 miles before towing heavy, but I had the flywheel resurfaced instead of a new SB one installed. I just took it easy like I do anyway and made sure that the clutch had plenty of time to do its job when taking off from a stop. Using L gear moving forward from a stop is a good idea if the load requires it. Sometimes people get upset with me because of how I start out and cross an intersection, but I don't care one bit.
I drive like I have nowhere to be 99% of the time.
Called SB just to verify with my setup and they said 300 minimum, they recommend 500 before towing. So at 500 miles at avg of 15mpg = 33 gallons x $2.45 = $80.00 in diesel to get it broken in before I can use it.
You can use the card at ALL commercial fuel pumps at ALL diesel stations. The discounts can be nothing or up to $1.50 per gallon of fuel. No monthly fees, no contracts, nothing commits you to anything. It is a win/win for people like you and me.
I have been paying around $2.00 per gallon and a few months ago paid $1.65 at Love's. With 75 gallons of fuel on board, at 50 cents per gallon of savings... Well, that is over $35 per fill up...
Your choice, your money sir, I just thought I would let you know.
Hey guys, hoping to pick your brains. This past weekend I started getting a high pitch sound when taking off from a stop, it goes away after I get going. I thought it was a stuck caliper or brake issue but I tracked the sound down to my clutch area. I only have about 1500 miles on this new clutch so I am hoping that is not it. I have put in a call to the shop that did the clutch work and hope to get it back in to them to take a look at it. I have checked the rear diff and it has fluid and the transmission has fluid over the fill port.
I wanted to see if any of you have heard this sound before, it only happens with the truck in gear and it is coming from the clutch area. I had my wife turn the wheels while I was under it to track down the squeal.
Is that noise someone pressing and releasing the clutch pedal??
A noise that happens while clutch is depressed and stops when it is not - is likely related to the release bearing. Autoparts store brand clutch kits are infamous for low quality release bearings, but failure this soon would be a surprise.
It is often recommended to overfill the ZF6 by one quart, so that sounds good. The correct fluid is Merc V ATF or a synthetic equivalent.
It makes the noise in gear. Out of gear it makes no noise. This is a top dollar setup, scroll up to see the parts I put into this so I am scratching my head as to why it is doing this. I just put a new slave clutch in about 4 or 5 months ago, it makes no noise while pressing/depressing the clutch pedal.
I can't get in to the clutch area to see anything but that is where the noise is coming from, not the gears.
