@sous, just to double check, if I wanted to get the flywheel I would get 1944-60K kit right? I am not sure I would trust anyone around here to resurface the flywheel correctly, figure I might as well replace it all for $700.
No sir! The 1944-60K-HD is the one you want if you feel you want to go with the same HD clutch I have. You can see the friction surface differences between the two 1944 clutches on the South Bend website.
Search around the internet for the best price. That happened to be Summit Racing for me.
South Southbends are not inexpensive, but shop around I ordered 19446OR-HD last week for under 500 at RCA garage
Whoa now.... i cant be 100% certain, but i want to say south bend explicitly says they require all their clutches to be sold @ their website's marked msrp or higher and that if you buy one cheaper than their listed msrp that the warranty is void. I think that's why @Riffraff Performance lists them for like $1 more than msrp.
Do you know if jason is selling the oilite bushings?
I'm not sure, I will tag @SkySkiJason to draw him him, but all discussion concerning sales or purchasing must be made over PM in order to keep within the guidelines of the forum. I wish I had seen this yesterday afternoon because my wife and I joined Jason and his family for dinner last night.

granted I've slept since my clutch job....
In April of 2017 I paid $558.60 from Summit Racing for a South Bend 1939-OHD. Performing an "authorized dealer" search on the South Bend site brings up Summit Racing in McDonough GA as an authorized dealer.
I looked for the below advertised price statement you have made on South Vend, but did not find it. When I called and spoke to South Bend about my performance needs, they did not mention the warranty concern.
That us not to say it isn't true, it is just that I feel it would be difficult for them to not warranty a part if the clutch was bought from an authorized dealer. I did not have a quality concerns though and that us why I have recommended the clutch to several people including you.
I don't recall any of them being unhappy with the clutch, which is a good thing in my book.
Most sites I found listed it for 582ish
then with discount code applied and free shipping i'm at 498.
I do ALL my own work so if south bend wants to deny my warranty "When not installed by a certified mechanic" this statement it's all they'd need.
with that said i'm not really worried about it, with propper break in and we'll within hp ratings I see no reason to worry .

Wes, I wanted to say thank you as your thread is guiding me along the way, I remember when you first did it and I am reviewing it again. Are you happy with the fitzall pilot bearing so far?
Maybe it was the Helwig sway bar?
I can't remember which item it was i bought that has the MSRP tied to the warrenty. Gonna drive me nuts till i remember
South Bend did have a popup on the website about buying from places that are less than MSRP and that the warranty would be void.
Pricing Policy
We encourage you to shop around when buying our parts but we do not allow discounts or price matching that goes below our MAP prices (3% below our published retail price).
Anyone paying less than our MAP price will lose their warranty!

EDIT: The post above was edited before I finished my post, which is below.
I wonder if MSRP is lower than what they list on the South Bend site. Their authorized dealers are listing it for less than what is on the South Bend site.
Doesn't matter to me because I am past the warranty date I am sure and the clutch has been flawless. Just seems silly to have such a statement on the manufacturer's site that contradicts what their authorized dealers list the parts for.
Good thing they make high quality clutches since unpaid more than 3% less than MSRP...
lpzd is correct if we install the clutch it doesn't matter as they will void the warranty. The Limited Warranty will not be valid under the following express conditions:
It is NOT registered within thirty (30) days of purchase.
When purchased by retail customer for less than our MAP price (see Pricing Policy below)
When not installed by a certified mechanic
When flywheel was not replaced with new or resurfaced to specification
Clutches which have been altered, improperly installed, or damaged by accident, negligence or misuse
My advice is always to call SB directly and let THEM recommend the right clutch for you. They will not steer you wrong. The price listed on their website is not likely MAP.
My experience is they will work with you if you have a problem. For example, I have seen them replace friction material on an oil contaminated clutch for only $40. They are good people and sell high quality stuff. It’s unlikely you’d have any warranty issues - but if it was a manufacturer defect, I’d expect them to make it right.
I have a couple pilot bushings left. PM me for details.
My transmission builder also recommends (1) quart overfill. I will fill from the top with plug out and then add a quart after full and replacing the plug.

Definitely not arguing the position. At the same time, am not sure how this will survive a tour through the courts if the item is a legitimate and unmodified unit of theirs which was properly installed (certified mechanic or not) and used in a manner consistent with its design. But it appears they are counting on folks not going that direction. Or, they are trying to <ahem> strongly influence people to use their network. Even the 30 day registration requirement seems dubious toward denying an otherwise valid claim. Just-sayin If anything, the 30 day registration allows SB to start the warranty window, but worst case is starting the window based on sale date per invoice.

With great service for you noted, there a couple of shops local to me that have run into the opposite when it came time for warranty service. They no longer highly recommend SB unless the customer outright wants one. One is a transmission shop where the owner stated that the clutch was bought directly from SB. Granted that I do not have direct experience here, and at the same time these outfits are the ones that I trust to take care of my vehicles.

Reason: Clarity.
I got the 475hp rated version 1944-6OFEK I believe and its held up great for 4 years now, also has very smooth engagement and is easy to maneuver and back trailers with.
