Forescan and fixing the 34 gallon tank issue with miles LEFT TILL EMPTY

Okay now that Im familiar with the forescan this week i will be altering the fuel tank size on my 34 gallon fuel tank because when my gauge says ZERO miles i still have 5-6 gallons in the tank.

2017 6.2 liter Crew Cab 4x4

I will be going in small steps though. Adjustment will be to make it a 37 gallon tank in FORESCAN by entering LINE 45 in the Forescan Codes spreadsheet to the HEX value of 579.

Basically 37 gallons converts to 140.06 US liters . Round it down to 140.1 liters. This converted to HEX value is 579.

(You can do this conversion by a decimal to HEX converter on google which would be 1401 (decimal value) to 579 HEX)

I will be carrying a 5 gallon gas can this week during work just in case the miles left is wrong and will drive until it says about 10 miles left and see how many gallons i can fit into the tank after this new value is used in FORESCAN on an empty tank.

Isn't that remaining 5 gallons (or so) your reserve? The fuel gauge in every vehicle leaves a little bit as a reserve even if it's showing empty. Even the estimate of miles remaining is just an "estimate", so you can't really trust it past 5-10 miles of accuracy anyways. I'm sure it says this in your manual, my 2019 F250 manual does.

I'm not sure this qualifies as an issue.. to me this is a very important feature!

Id like to be able to adjust the low fule level warning on my work 450. It lights up the moment fuel lever drops below 1/2 tank. Basically this way its just a useless idiot light that needs to be ignored.

Many in tank fuel pumps need to be submerged in gas to stay cool and not burn up. You may be doing more harm than good...

Is your truck covered by the TSB for some 2017s to replace the 34 gallon tank and sender?

I had to inquire with my dealer to see if mine was included in the TSB. They didn't offer the info. They did replace the tank and pump under the TSB. It is nice knowing the DTE when it is a little more accurate.

I bet if you run it dry you will only get 120 litres in it. My 2005 was listed at 119.6 litre total capacity. I had one occasion where it died towing rolling into a pump and it literally took 119 liters. (diesel mind you) If you review your manual for your truck, I highly doubt its a 140 litre tank, its a 120 in your manual. Look up the hex code and start with that. Or, even, leave 4 liters in reserve to empty, use a hex code for 116 liters would be safer.

My 48 gallon, 181 liter tank is also accurate on my 2017 diesel. Literally almost ran dry, got 180 liters in it. Serious pucker factor towing the RV and whole family on a long trip. (I cross three provinces)

Alrighty no change really

Well I just filled up with 5 miles before “empty” with my Forescan change my 34 gallons to 37 gallons. Although the fuel gauge seemed way more accurate now, I still only get 29.76 gallons into it. No change on the 2nd part from stock 34 gallon forescan setting.
