2017 f-250 only 25 gal in a 34 gal tank
When my 2017 F-250 shows "50 miles to empty" I can only put 25 gal. in the tank. The truck has 5300 miles on it. What gives with the fuel gauge? I should be able to put at least 30+ gal. in the tank. What happens if I run it out of fuel just to see if I still have about 9 gals left in the tank?

Don't the 2017's have a trip A and Trip B that tell you how much fuel you've burned? I always reset my Trip A when I fill up and it seems to be reasonably accurate.
I notice that my DTE is very conservative. Just adjust your need to get fuel feeling. I had a Tundra that on E would only let you put 18 gal in with a 26 gal tank and the DTE at full would say 180 miles to empty. I just made the 180 when I would look to get fuel as you could easily drive another 75 miles. On my current truck, I fill up between 1/2 and 1/4 tank, but I have a long bed and 37.5 gal on board.

Maybe an odd question, but do you have a 6.75' bed? If yes, then your tank only holds 26 gallons. I think a few dealers may have accidentally given out bad info not knowing there is a difference in size between the SWB and LWB.
Just wanted to ask in case in was something like that.

Interstate Ford in Dacono CO fixed my Fuel problem
When I took my 2017 F-250 Diesel in for 10,000 mile service I asked the service ticker writer to see if there was a fix for only being able to put 25 gal of fuel in a 34 gal tank when the monitor says "50 miles to empty"
He did some research and found out that trucks built before April 1st 2017 had this problem.
The fix is they replaced the Fuel Tank and the Fuel Level Sender Assembly. The TBS number on the sheet from Ford is TSB 17-0046. This applies to the F-250, F-350 & F-450.
When I arrived at the Dealership my truck said I had 8 miles to empty after they replaced the tank and put the leftover fuel back in the new tank the monitor said I had 76 miles to empty.
When I drove back to my home town to the fuel station the monitor said I had 26 miles to empty. When I filled the truck with fuel I was able to put 31 gal in the tank.
So if you have this problem check with your Dealer. Glad to have mine fixed!!

Finally after all my forum reading ive done on my 2017 f250 6.7 diesel 160” wheelbase. I am suppose to have a 34 gallon fuel tank. I bought truck brand new in August of 2017. After 2 years of owning the truck the most I’ve ever put in my truck is 22 gallons with 30 miles to empty. I only get around 250 miles a tank. I finally got feed up with this as I do alot of driving so I started to look into titan fuel tanks. But before I made this investment I decided to call ford as they all tell me I only have a 26 gallon tank. I have no idea where they came up with this but that’s all they would tell me. Finally called a ford dealership in Slidell , la which they were very nice and actually took the time to research. What they told me was that 148” wheelbase is 29 gallon tank, the 160” wheelbase is 34 gallons. With that being said I’ve been able to another 12 gallons this whole time. I’m suppose to drop it off this week. Can’t wait to see the difference, as filling up every 250 miles gets old quick. Ill see what they do and update y’all

One of the reasons I bought a long bed 2011 and my current 2015 was for the 38 gal tank - the newer ones (2017+) the upped the tank sizes on the short and long beds. Your gauge reminds me of my 2007 Tundra. It was supposed to have a 26 gal tank and the most I could ever put into it was 2018 with 0 miles to empty. It meant I had a 150 mile range when EMPTY. SO I get that, it suck feeling all too well. I hope that they can reprogram your fuel gauge correctly.
I've always been tempted to get a transfer flow or titan replacement tank as the thought of 60 gallons is really appealing - but the price tag to do so isn't.
