I hate to say it because I love my truck but I may be one who has the problem. I read the TSB on the "F150 Forum" and since my last oil change at the selling dealership @ 12002 miles in February our 5.0 is slightly over the 1 quart low @ 13,455 miles. This is an early F150 ordered at the end of July 2017 and delivered to us on 9-28-17.
I am retired and have the time to drive to them. I spoke only to the service manage who was unaware of the TSB but was quickly given a copy from one of his service writers who himself had just found out about it. We went over it together and the procedure is pretty specific, As he was reading it he said to me Ford must have a problem and definately knows about it. The lower limit is 3000 miles per qt.
I'm going in tomorrow to have the PVC replaced, as per instructions, and having the marks placed on the "dip stick", as per instructions, to start the test. If the engine use a quart of oil in less than 3000 miles he said they will order the engine (long block) and replace it. This service manager was very upfront with me as he has had this happen to a Mustang 350GT a few years back that also received an engine.
I've had 4 new Ford pickups and none have ever give me a problem other that Ford said needed with TSB's and one was a 6.0 diesel that was a perfect truck for the 80K miles we owned it.

Sorry to hear, it's an inconvenience for sure but if your truck needs a new engine it'll get one.
Jimmy, feel lucky. I was held off from 1,500 miles all the way to 24,000 before the TSB came out. I just dropped my truck off tonight for the engine replacement. I’ll have it back Friday. I’m apprehensive because there’s somewhere near 12-15 quarts of oil that was sent through my catalytic converters that get ignored. Who pays when they fail prematurely? I’ll get stuck, but what else can I do. My dealer (owner) and service guy have been great, and I’m hoping this is the last of my problems. Good luck with yours. I’m on Ford truck #26, or something like that, and this one is the first one to burn oil and the first to just about drive me over the edge.

I can certainly agree with you here. Keep in mind that the The Federal Emissions Warranty will cover emissions related component repairs for vehicles up to 8 years old or up to 80,000 miles. This is beyond factory Bumper to Bumper or power train warranty.
I'm monitoring the level on my late build '18 (10/18 build date). Looks like it has use some during the first 1000mi. Will monitor going forward and see where we're at.

Thanks for the FEW. I had no idea. I’ll be over 80k in a year. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the cats to go 250k, which is longer than my son will keep it after I’m done with it, but who knows. How will I know the cats are shot if I’m not required to emission test?

I would guess that you wouldn't know. As that amount of mileage is a bit of an outlier, you were not the target audience of the emissions law. Mine is also exempt from emissions testing until 2020 (5 years for new vehicles in California). So if mine develops an emissions issue, we won't know until then.

I would venture a guess you might be seeing some post cat oxygen sensor codes if the cats start going south. This is a SWAG for sure as I am by no means an expert...
I wonder if the 02 sensors will have some type of oil or burnt oil residue on them.
If it’s more than the normal darkening on the sensor itself, then I’d say there might be a problem with the cats sooner than their normal life or OEM Cycle.
I kind of doubt that a bit of oil would affect the O2 sensors unless it was a realy large amount of oil. Even burning a quart every 1,000 miles, that is 200 parts gasoline to 1 part oil. Further, the environment where the O2 sensors are is really, really hot. I doubt that it is actually "oil" at that point, but maybe more like fine soot. Just speculating here.
I have a 10/18 build on my 5.0. During the first 2500 miles I put about 1.25 quarts in. After that , there has been little or no oil consumption and I now have 4700 miles. This oil usage was the same that I had with my 2013 5.0. During the first 3000 miles or so it used a quart, then once it got broken in it didn’t use any oil thereafter. Keeping my fingers crossed that there are no issues. The dealership that sold me my truck gave me a lifetime warranty on the engine and drivetrain . Glad I bought it from them.
I have a 3/18 build on my 5.0. The first oil change was early at 3,000 miles. After that, it burnt around 2 quarts in 6,000 mi. This was before the TSB came out but I heard to try to replace the PCV around this time. I confess I was a little worried. I decided to drive it hard in sport mode for a couple weeks before the second oil change to try to get it broke in. Now at the second oil change, 10200, it has completely stopped as near as I can tell. I cut the filter open and it was clean as it could be inside. I am just over 12000 the computer says 96% on the second oil change. The Transmission has learned my driving and the mileage has gone up 1.3 miles according to the lie meter. It took a long time for the engine to break in I feel.
My previous truck was a 6.0 diesel and it took it about that long to loosen up also.

That lifetime warranty is over when or if the company who provided it to your dealer goes out of business. Could be tomorrow or a year from now. It’s not a Ford warranty.
