My best guess is, that this was not his/her first rodeo, and that they went to the trouble of building that because they used it multiple times over a period of time. While it looks sketchy as can be, it also looks like they spent a lot of time thinking it out and designing it.

Yikes, plywood seems too flexible. Edit, looking at the pick again it looks like two 3/4 plywood there.

Was the person born with two extra hands? I only ask, because when getting everything in place to set that up, you would have to have multiple hands to hold it in place while you began to get it hooked up.
