I am still doing about the same amount of driving, but it doesn't seem like I have been having to use as much gas. I wonder if it is because I don't have to sit at stoplights as long and don't have the stop and go traffic. My truck says I have increased my fuel mileage about 3 mpg for city traffic since before all of this craziness.
Probably all those are true Curtis. Our mileage may end up being more like John's. I did fill the truck a couple of days ago since it was cheap. I still had about half a tank and hadn't driven it for a couple of weeks but decided to top it off. At these prices I like to keep things full and also be prepared if something really crazy happens although I'm not worried about that. Just being prepared.
I don't really worry about society break down, but more about issues related to a bunch of folks getting sick and deliveries not being available or in short supply. Then a toilet paper like run happens and there is no gas or diesel.
I suppose there would be that possibility, especially if electricity goes out, people will be using vehicles to charge their phones, generators, etc. Depending on how long electricity was out, people may get creative and modify their vehicles to heat and cool their houses, or power their houses in some fashion. I have a generator, but would feel awful bad about having to make the neighbors listen to it run 24/7. I would like to get a large, quiet generator, that was dual fuel, so I could run it from propane, or Natural Gas.
I may have to take my trucks for a ride around town just to stir up the gas that's in the tank and possibly top them up for the same reason. It doesn't look like there will be many cruises in them this summer..
I just thought about something on gas, if you may not use a vehicle for several months or longer, I would avoid enthanol and go with ethanol free premium. I didn’t do that, but we will use the gas one way or another before a couple of months.
