Was news always this political? Was it any different in the days of mega newspapers? Before TV?

I feel like newspapers in the years before TV had more integrity. There were Yellow Paper newspapers that were satire, and were full of fantasy news much like our news today, They were required to be yellow paper so that you could know which ones were satire (think National Enquirer or any of today's news stations)
Small town paper are where its at. You want to know who visited who, and where they went for dinner, and what projects are going on in the neighborhood.. You will likely get the truth from them. It may not include much political junk, but you can likely bet your lunch on the truth of it.
