Question, I know running boards on some models were painted body color. Where yours originally black? Also, what's that little piece at the front of the running board just aft of the front fender?
Running boards were painted black at the factory for 53-55 trucks. 56 pickups had running boards painted body color.

That would be a catch pan / drip pan under the truck on the floor . Trick photography !
I posted this in another thread but I used U-Pol Raptor Black Urethane Truck Bed Liner Kit to paint my running boards.
Firstrider and pintoplumber are correct...just junk under the truck that I haven't cleaned up yet. Here is the most recent pic of the truck. Got the doors all built out and operating smoothly. Just need to tidy up the inside under the dash and fire wall before I put the seat back in it. Last thing I will do is put the bed wood in.
Just a tip: Its easier to put the bed wood in with the bed off. There are like 72 bolts, washers, and nuts to put on.
Andn its easier of you got someone on the top side holding the bolt head from turning.
Yea I'm aware of that...however as with most things on this truck i'm working alone on it. Arranging a time when my boys can be there to help me pull the bed off and put it back on is hard so I will most likely spend a lot of time on my back under the truck installing the bed boards
Got the cab buttoned up escept for hooking up the wires for the turn signals, and installing the door seals. Also my son came by and helped me put the bed wood in this morning before it got hot. Oh so very close to have it ready for the road. Still need to get insurance on it and get it titled.
