I have some painting to do myself and have to wait as well. The past few years have been unusually mild but this year it seems that winter is back...cool and rainy in SoCal. We need the rain so the painting will just have to wait.
I took my 54 to the body shop in June 1998. I got it back on July 1999. Now it was in bad shape. A lot of rust and holes. Everything came off except the cab. I had to keep bugging him. In February 2016 I got a new bed for it and some rust needed repaired. I took it to the same shop, expecting him to be slow. He had to get me hustling to get my bed wood painted. I ended up driving the truck home with the bed lightly bolted down with no wood in place. So So I put the wood in at home and then attached the bed....
I've done all the work on the truck myself...only things I farmed out was rebuilding of the 223 engine and the painting. I dropped off the fenders the middle of Oct 2017 and the cab Jan 2019. So 13 months for paint so far. But i have been working on the truck whenever I had the money for parts for just under 9 years.
I just crossed the two year mark on my truck parts. The body man said in December 2016 he will paint the pieces of my '49 as soon as the holidays were over. It was four months later in April 2017 that he finally made room in his shop. I got the first parts painted in March 2018. Still waiting for the bed and fenders. The bodywork is done, just needs final smoothing and paint now.
I can't do much assembly in my unheated garage or driveway six months of year due to cold and darkness so the wait although annoying hasn't been too troublesome. He hasn't asked for a single dime in pay yet. But I have to get it done this year in order to drive to the PA Truckstock, even if I paint it myself with a house brush and a bucket.

Stopped in to check on progress...was told they were planning on painting it tonight or tomorrow. I can hardly wait to see it. Took a few pics of it in the paint booth
When your painter said he will paint it tonight or tomorrow, I thought that is just the old line..... But it's in the paint booth. So that sounds legit!
Got called yesterday and truck is ready to be picked up. However it is -9 here this morning. Not going to try and move it today...heading over to take a look at it...will post pics later.
Wow, you Indy boys are kinda soft. HA! It's still 14 below up here in Lafayette and I'm spending the day out on the roof at work in a 20 MPH breeze chasing a short in some air handler wiring. I came in for lunch with ice in my goatee from my breath. Seriously, I can't wait to see the pics. I love glacier blue.
The truck my son used to haul it to the painter is a diesel and he tried to get it started this morning with no luck...will have to wait till tomorrow when its supposed to be a little warmer.
