I'm gonna sit right next to him if he comes to it.
I have been taking it to him in pieces, and he paints them as he has time. Started with the fenders, then the doors, then hood and finally bed. As soon as he has room I will take the truck over so he can paint the cab. Can't sit out since there are no windows, doors, or hood on it.
I've been trying to find the cling type plastic you see on new cars when they show up at the dealers. Instead of taping to prevent scratches as I assemble it would like to find the plastic
Thought I posted to congratulate you on reaching the paint milestone, but it does not show up. I spent 8 1/2 years on getting my truck from frame off to registered to drive.
I've been driving my truck now for 6 years and it has picked up a few rock chips and scratches along the way. I built the truck to drive, so I convince myself that driving it is contributing to the overall "patina". They will never look as good as the day they come out of paint, unless of course they see a lot of garage time.I have seen a lot of beautiful trucks, but they don't see a lot of road time.
Dropped the rest of the truck off at the painters today. As long as other insurance work doesn't get in the way he should be able to get it painted in the next couple weeks. Cant wait..it's been almost 9 years.
It's going to look great when it's all together. That's a factory color, isn't it? I looked at one similar to that before buying mine and it was gorgeous.
As for plastic, can you use the stuff the wrap up pallets and moving supplies with? You can buy it on a roller easy enough at the big box home stores, and put a few layers on each body panel to protect it. But I'm not sure if I'd put anything adhesive on fresh paint, though.

Good luck! "A couple of weeks"...... I've heard that story before from painters and so have several others here. I truly hope he sticks to his word this time so you can get your truck on the road!

That's exactly what my bodyman said two years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still says it every few month since, I'm waiting for the fenders and bed.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Hope it is done in a timely manner.
My body man / painter said he hopes to get paint on my truck sometime this spring ......... wait I am the body man / painter
I did a cab off frame rebuild of my 81 F100 flare side, not a show truck just a nice looking driver, started in Dec 2015.
