Welcome aboard and welcome back to Oregon, Jim and welcome to our daily chat thread where we keep up on the gossip and let everyone know we are still vertical and taking nourishment!
Not that we are a nosey bunch, but where were you hiding for the past 44 years?
Lyons is a nice area. We spend a lot of time at Detroit Lake in the Spring and summer so go right by there.
Moved to a spot few miles out of Barstow, then to a spot near Rachel, nv then to an area outside of Carson City, then to the Bay Area in California. Still waiting for my toes to grow webs back again. Just discovered Salem Off-road, picked up a bed Matt and heading back in this weekend to buy a cargo tool box to store stuff in while traveling. Have to kick the lights up a notch as when raining and dark hard to see real well.
Good morning Oregon, it must be miserable with all the rain Jim...at least here it's cold enough to snow ...only -36° this morning...
Naw, we're good on that John. Most of us here have web feet and refer to it as 'liquid sunshine'.
I really do not mind the snow all that much. Warden hates it unless we are making a day visit to someplace like Crater Lake.
Now, that -36 BS is something that we would have to have a serious discussion about. The environmentalists here have taken all my seal skin coats and pants away from me!
Evening all. Charging system finally took a crap on me. Left work and the volts started dropping. Jumped it twice to get home. Well, more or less charged the battery back up. Never died I just pulled over and had the wife’s car charge it up.
So, I replaced the voltage regulator...... jumped the truck.... unhooked the cables and battery voltage started dropping again. I replaced the regulator with a 95/130 amp one.
So next step replace the alternator with a new one?
BTW: my alternator has 3 bolts.... unless the mystical 4th bolt is a small one in the back that isn’t used for mounting.
EDIT: the voltage regulator is two pieces right? Because the inner half with the two connecting wires didn’t come with the back piece that has “test ground here” stamped in it.
As Jim said, most auto parts stores can check them .....you can also if you have a voltmeter. Be sure to check your ground cables.
If you need a new alt, be sure you charge up the battery before starting the engine. Those alternators can overcharge themselves and burn out if you don't. Won't happen everytime, but I have seen it happen.
If the new alternator comes with a new wiring lead that you need to attach to your harness, be sure to do it, even tho it's a bit of a pain and the temptation is to not do it. The original was somewhat prone to melting and potentially causing fire damage.
Hope this helps some.
