Belated good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Cleaning guns and equipment and getting ready for Elk Hunting next week. We are giving up on bear for a few days. They have our road closed off into our favorite area to hunt bears in. They claim that they are working a few miles beyond the area. Kind of BS as they could lock the gate about 3 miles up the road from the work area if they are concerned about the towers, yarder or other equipment. They've done that in years past. Now they are shutting down the road with a gate 9 miles down a very steep grade mountain from the 'prime' hunting area.
Looks like ole 3 toes is safe for this year...unless he died from old age. We've been trying to find him for quite a few years. Pretty distinct 3 towed foot print on his right front.
I will admit, vandalism has been a problem. They caught some folks up in that area a couple of years ago, 3 miles behind a locked gate. It was actually hunters that caught some tree huggers and anti-hunters/animal rights activists that had teamed up. . I guess they forgot that Elk Hunters have mountain bikes too. Not to mention a very poor attitude for people caught doing this stuff.
Howdy John. Deer Season ended yesterday for us. The last of our hunting party filled her deer tag yesterday with about 3 hours to spare.
Stayed home and recuperated from climbing one too many mountains this past week. I figured we were all in trouble yesterday when we were standing at the bottom of a very big hill wondering if we had enough cell phone coverage to call one of our wives to come get us and give us a ride back up the mountain to the pickups.
Spent the day watching a car race I had on the DVR from last Sunday while I cleaned guns and equipment. Then started getting some things ready for the elk hunt. Elk hunt runs next Saturday thru Tuesday. We will have six elk tags in our party to fill. Five for sure, still waiting to confirm the 6th person is getting some time off from work. If he doesn't make first season, then a couple of us will go out on the 2nd season hunt, hunting bear and cougar while he hunts 2nd season elk. Three of us have bear tags and two of us have cougar tags. Bear and Cougar run through December 31st. After that I'll be mostly duck hunting.
