Good morning Oregon! Been a busy week and a half here at the new job, just learning the ropes, and getting my initial training done. I like it here, though!
Good afternoon Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Home for lunch then I'll probably make a foray up a different mountain. I'm finding Weyerhaeuser to now be much worse than Hancock...and I didn't think anything or anyone could be worse than Hancock.
It's sad to get a headache as soon as you walk in the door....
Hmm, must work for the City of McMinnville. When I worked for Mac I really didn't realize that I had had one long continuous headache....until I transferred to Douglas County and Roseburg and the headache went away.

Yes. Weyerhauser land south of Brownsville is a pain to navigate around with the checkerboard land management.

Weyerhaeuser has put gates up on BLM roads. BLM road number and logo right by the gate. It turns out in the one case, the BLM sold some land or swapped some land or whatever...a 400 yard strip of land in the deal included the road and apparently it was inclusive with no right of way or retention of Federal owner ship. You get to drive 12 miles to get around this 400 yard strip. A large part of upper Gopher Valley and West Peavine where it drops over to Willamina Creek is now all "No Trespassing..". When I went to the web site and then called, they were not letting out leases. Not that I would have applied for a lease, I was just curious as to how much they were charging. In short, they have closed off most of the mountains up there. Gopher Tie, Elk Flats Roads and many others are getting closed off, not only to vehicles, but to walking, hiking, horse back riding as well.
Hancock has closed off Slick Rock so to go 1/4 mile, you have to drive 20 miles, if they haven't closed the gates off of Bear Creek at Horner Ranch or Gravel Creek. That road up there used to be USFS and BLM and is surrounded by USFS and BLM. The roads still carry BLM and USFS road numbers. A large chunk of BLM and some USFS on Saddle Bag and surrounding mountains are closed off and for all intents and purposes are inaccessible. There is a large grove of Old Growth trees up there. Every tree in the stand has an OSU study marker on it.
I've hunted, fished and ridden horses on these lands since I was old enough for dad to drag me along so it is a particular irritant to me.
The woods have sure been crowded this year. It’s hard to find anyplace nobody has been in unless you hike in a few miles. And there aren’t that many places to do that in western Oregon anyways.
Didn’t see amy deer this evening. I’ll try again Thursday.
Morning all, Got the rest of the "Princess Palace" textured last night. As I was walking back to the house I was met by two deer. Too dark to see if they were bucks or does. I think they startled me more than I startled them. I was too tired to be paying attention.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. As soon as this next pot of coffee is finished making, the Thermos will be full and I'm heading out for the very top of the mountain.
We've had .15" since midnight. Not as much as I thought it was. The back of the pickup looked like a swimming pool until I cleaned the drain ports this morning.
Looks like the coffee is done. I'm out of here for the mountain top.
