Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Finally have everything, including ourselves, packed out of the woods. My long time hunting partner and I thought it should be us on the game carts, but the younger members of the troop weren't having any part of that.
Jim, no pictures that I’ve heard about. It’s the second sighting in the past few months near here. The person that saw it said it looked like a young one.
Belated good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 50.2 and overcast. No rain.

Do you hunt the cougars as trophy's or meat? or both.?
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Still trying to recover from paying the property taxes today.

Usually and mostly hunt them for damage control. They make good sausage and hamburger, but it is very rare to get one and is usually incidental to hunting something else. A chance encounter.
In Oregon we are no longer allowed to hunt bears or cougar with dogs. There are also strict quotas on them which includes cougars killed by means other than hunting, such as being hit by a car on the highways. In our North Cascades/Coastal Zone, there was a total quota of 180 cougars for 2018. As of yesterday, 79 have been taken by hunters and 93 have been found dead from means other than hunters. That means there are only 8 cougar kills allowed by any means before the end of the year. Once the 180 number has been reached, the season is closed.
No further cougar hunting will be allowed this year and no cougars are allowed to die from old age, being hit by cars etc. until next year.
As to trophy's, taxidermy is too much money for me. If I were to get a nice cougar, I'm afraid I'd have to make the wife go back to work so I could afford a head rug or wall hanger to be made.
