Morning Andy, Pat and those to follow.
No cold here but the smoke from the fires are causing lots of sinus problems.

Yes, San Diego. Son in Law, daughter and grandkids are stationed down here, so we are spending a week and a half with them in base housing. Seeing some of the old haunts from my Navy and Army days. Wild and crazy like the old days. Nerf wars with all the kids and half the adults in the military housing here every night.
Looking forward to heading to California on vacation here in a year or two. Want to get down to San Diego, then head up to LA, then stop off at NAS Lemoore, where I was stationed. Just wondering if there's a way to get a base pass.

RTC/NTC is gone, but MCRD is still there. Going to go look at the old boot camp tomorrow before leaving for home. Kids tell us it has all been razed and or remodled for offices, businesses etc..
I doubt you will have much success at getting onto base at NAS Lemoore, but you never know. We got on to a couple of the bases here, but ONLY because we have kids here that are active duty and can 'sponsor' us. My service connected disability & card doesn't even work for that. It's funny. We can buy stuff at the online version of the exchange, the PX at the VA, but I have to have my SIL or Daughter with their ID cards to buy anything in the exchange system in person.
Save your $$$ up. Had it not been for our kids living here in base housing with a spare room, military discounts and passes, we would have never been able to do this. The hotel costs alone would have been prohibitive.
Set up an account on www.id.me for the military verification and discounts and check for discounts on admission prices and other. Some of the ones we used have expired or will expire by the end of Sept., but they have saved us hundreds!

Okay, thanks for the info, Jim! I was thinking we'd have a tough time getting on to base. Too bad, would have loved to show the wife and kids where I worked for 3 years. If Lemoore still has their airshow, maybe I could time it for then. I could at least get them to the operations side of the base.

Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Daughter and son in law are out on a date night and the grandkids are keeping an eye on us and entertaining us with the Peter Rabbit movie.

You are in luck for that Pat. I wouldn't think that airshow would ever go away...

Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else.
Fly home day. We leave this evening and will get into Portland late tonight. We won't get home until the wee hours of the morning. Going up the street in a bit for a tour of the kids school here in the base housing unit. From the outside, it looks to be a pretty nice school, physical plant wise. After that we will load the bags in the car and start towards the airport via the old Boot Camp that is now closed. It will be interesting to walk around and see how they have converted the old place. Will probably stop at the Maritime Museum and look at some sailing ships (a couple of which were in Pirates of the Caribbean) and a Russian Foxtrot Submarine.

Nice Photo's Jim.

Week from hell is almost over. Should be fishing but with low counts headed to the coast with the trailer to glamp instead. Somehow we found a place to stay on weekend no less.

Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Got home at 0330 this morning. Animals are still letting us know how much they missed us and how much they didn't like the babysitter...
The car battery was DOA when we got to the car this morning at the airport. So, we had to get a jump start. Should have been no reason for it to go down. Last thing I did before we left it was to make sure that everything was unplugged. Had a jump pack in the trunk, but couldn't get to it without electricity. It's happened before, but I thought we were long past that 'idiosyncrasy'.
Opened my suitcase up and found a TSA Inspection Notification. Lids had been taken off of a couple of 'souvenir' cups and moved from the middle of the clothes to on top and now we can't seem to find my Rx trifocal glasses. I was getting a headache so I had switched out to my single vision. The GPS NUVI and all the power cords that the glasses were with were there...

Good luck with the Hood to Coast Chris. Hunker down and barricade in place comes to mind.
