Heat at the NC house broke.. gonna be 7K to replace the unit..
Ouch. Sorry man. Sucks.

Our upstairs heat went out this weekend. Talk about bad timing. I did everything I could do to fix it but after enough investigating I finally found the issue. A smoked relay in the upstairs air handler. I got it out and they don't make that part anymore. (system is almost 20 yeas old) I finally called a friend who is an hvac guy and he's coming by today to fix it. I hope it's just the relay.

not much you can do when the fire box part for the gas unit cracks.. it was the downstairs one that broke... the upstairs units a heat pump.. only thing i hate with the upstairs unit is that the t-stat is not very accurate.. i have to set it to 62 because it wont kick off when it gets back to temp.. it waits till it drops to 58 then runs till its 70... think part of its issue is its placement.. need one with remote sensors..

LOL...I had to work on mine also. The sequencer went bad and it got hotter than hell in here(at least we weren't freezing). I replaced it at 3am this morning along with a couple of burnt wires...good as new. Now if this 22yr old system will get me through the winter I will replace it when it warms enough for me to comfortably work outside.

Be Good!!! and stay warm.

Morning, NC! Heat pump's working fine at my place...only problem is it doesn't heat the basement. The little electric space heater usually is all I need when I hang out in my spot down there, but lately it can't hardly touch it. Thinking about finding a kerosene heater on the cheap somewhere, so I can get back to watching movies and building car models after the family goes to bed in the evenings.

i wouldnt use the kerosene one indoors unless you leave a window open.. too easy for CO2 to build up inside.. now those heater buddy things that use the little 1 lb tanks work pretty well and are rated for indoor use.. i have the bigger version and if you can close off the room itll warm it up.. IIRC they say itll run 6 hrs on high with the 1 lb tank.. so it just kinda sips on them things..

Since my system is so old our hvac guy put in a different part and did some rewiring to bring it up to date. We have heat upstairs again. Yay! Nice to have friends in the business.

Hope everyone else gets their stuff fixed without much cost or effort.

I rode the bike yesterday to work. It was 12°F when I left and 24° when I got home. Didn't ride today with the threat of ice in the forecast. I honestly hope it doesn't do anything. I enjoyed it as a kid. I pretty much hate it now.

Yall be safe and enjoy the rest of your week.

Kids just called, power is out at the house. We have out unvented gas logs running, they can keep everything at 70 degrees, I told them to wait to fire up the generator.

Whaddupp fellers?!
Just checking in. Boy's winter is here! According to the weather guessers we may break freezing by this weekend. Shari and I are "Patiently" waiting for tax stuff to come out so we can start working towards getting pre-approved so we can start house shopping. We're really planning on this move being our last. And I can't wait to have a nice size garage so I can get me another air compressor, and get going on Ka'Bluey.
Still sounds like we're going to get back north a bit. But I can't lie...I do miss my boy Tim. And Shari's sister is stoked about having her sister back in the area too, as well as some friends that we've each had for 30 and 40 plus years.
Room starting to take a twirl on me....yup I found a bottle in the fridge, and pantry that I forgot about.

Waste not want not!

Y'all stay safe and warm back in North Carolina!

Unk Bob

I got the Big Buddy, the 12' hose and regulator for a 20# cylinder, and the carrying case for $160.00 summer before last. It works great in the house, the big canvas tent or the Base Camp trailer when I don't feel like firing up the wood stove.

It seems that ole' Duke Power can't keep reliable power on lately. Ours here has been flickering for over a week. I hate to see the result after a snow/ice incident. Never had near these problems when CP&L was the provider.
