If I saw it but didn't know what it was I'd guess it was new oil aka a caramel color.

So are you suggesting that there is oil in that coolant?

Honestly, it's hard to say...depending on what coolant they used it could be the natural color. IIRC, weren't you going to rebuild your oil cooler? If you did, did you flush everything?

That is what I'm in the process of at the moment. Still have to drain the block as of yet. I've been working on it before and after work.

If you shine a trouble light through it, it look yellow or green. Any hint of brown disappears.

I can't figure out what color you have there but I can tell you that if there is oil in the coolant it sits on top, it won't mix in, oil and water are not the least bit soluble with each other and oil is less dense than water so it rises to the top.

The color is hard to tell what it might be. It could be green mixed with gold, or dirty gold, or dirty green, you see where I am going with this...

I don't really see any signs of oil, but a picture may not be telling the full story.

It looks like a yellow/green with the light shown through. There wasn't any skim stuff sitting up top. Just a little sand at the bottom but I am installing a filter for that. I know my coolant I just put in my tractor was a gold color.

I agree with this. If your rebuilding the oil cooler, I just flush and add new of your choice. Should be fine.

Question. How do you get to the plug on passenger side of block to drain coolant? I know it's behind the starter but I can't see it no matter which way I go.

You can reach it easy enough with the starter installed with about 6" worth of extension.

Haha. I hate snakes.... The plug on my driver's side is all goofy. 1/4" is too small 3/8 too big. If I flush repeatedly can I get away with not removing them? It was have already been tampered with and be stripped.

That is the plug for oil you are trying to remove. Look up higher on the block and you will find the coolant one.

I was not able to get the passenger side plug out either. After 18 years of running the engine, it was not budging.

I had 40 gallons of distilled water ready to go through the system to flush it. I have well water, so no chance of running that through the cooling system. I think about 20ish gallons in the water was being returned to the bottle as clear as it was going in.

The short answer is you should be fine, just remember to turn on the heater in the truck in order to get the coolant out of there too!
