It looks like the water temp sensor is on the center side of the thermostat opposite of this plug. I was replacing housing with thermostat. I asked and Clay said the sensor will stay in it's spot and then plumb in the coolant filter. Sensor will not move just because of the filter.
The truck temp sensor for the idiot gauge in the cab stays. I was referring to an aftermarket temp gauge that will actually show you your coolant temp. Sorry for the miscommunication. You can plumb the aftermarket gauge into the coolant filter housing.
Question. Waiting on my parts. The thermostat housing from Riffraff isn't in stock right yet. The woman and I are going out to Frankenmuth this Saturday. My oil cooler only has that damp external leak. Doesnt really lose any oil. Frankenmuth is about an hour and a half from my place. Would anyone have a problem taking their truck with that issue? We can take her Ranger but we thought my truck would be more comfortable.
I would take it and keep an eye on the fluid level. Some people go by the theory that if an older diesel is not leaking fluids, then it is out of that particular fluid. Not me, but some do...
I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. I don't think I've ever heard of truck being stuck on the side of the road because the oil cooler seals blew out completely. Worst case it might leak a little worse, but the seals are held in place pretty firmly and I don't really how you could go from a minor leak to a major one that fast.
Ok. Good to know. I do k ow that I'm hoping my parts arrive soon. Went to start the truck last night and it didn't want any part of that. Could be glow plugs going bad. But I think having a block heater would help. It got down to 17 degrees quite fast here. And it was parked from 7:30am-8:30pm
Are there any bad experiences with napa coolant concentrate? I'm going to see if our local store has ELC before I drive twice the distance to talk to the guys at the semi shop.

I use NAPA green in my truck and Subaru never had a problem. You can buy coolant off the World Wide Web too, no need to travel.
I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't badly priced though. I'm not sure how new the water pump is on this truck. So I thought maybe use this for now that way if I have any issues I don't have to dump a higher grade coolant out. I know, I should probably just put a new pump on now but this one isn't junk yet. It does say on the back that it can be used with a release when needed filter or some such.
