I "hot" wired my dash cam - since it has a parking mode, I want it to be on all the time....I picked up an always on circuit in the passenger side kick panel....the same could be done by using the up fitter wires in the same (passenger side) area.
someone was asking about mounting/sun shades earlier...I mounted mind on the passenger side (to avoid interference with the auto dim sensor in the rear view mirror - and because I will eventually mount my Valentine 1 on the drivers side).
as you can see - the Dashcam is nearly invisible from the outside.
the Mounting location is to the right of the the lane departure / rain sensor (scoop) because it has such a wide angle, if it were mounted closer to the sensor scoop I'd end up having the plastic blocking the lens/view.
Tricon, that one picture came out as a small gif because it is either a video or most likely a series of 3 or 4 pictures taken in sequence. I can see it moving...
But thanks for the info!

Haha I know why it's an animated gif... Don't know why I made one for that pic.
Thank you! My father-in-law and I spent quite some time figuring out the best location for our use.

The camera was installed below the grid dot for a few reasons:
1. The camera install was only temporary (three weeks). We wanted to make sure the VHB wasn't going to be a pain to remove from the grid dot.
2. The location allowed for easy manipulation of the buttons and great screen visibility. Theft (exterior visibility) was not really a concern.
3. The wipers clear the field of view perfectly.
Mounting it on the left (drivers) side of the mirror could block the sensor in the back of the rearview mirror...there is no sensor on the right (passenger) side.

I have that sensor that everyone said is for lane keeping assistance and I don't have that feature in my truck

Anybody else mount a V1 up there yet? I'm interested in options, but don't have one yet.
I was thinking of buying a Viofo A119s with the GPS mount. Can someone explain how the GPS feature works, does it interface with the trucks GPS via a cable of how does it work?

I have a Viofo and really like it. The GPS module is a little rectangular box that the dash cam clicks onto. Power cable goes into it from the top which makes for a very clean looking install. The module simply stamps the recorded video with location and speed information. When you play back a Viofo video file it will include that info in the meta data. Without the GPS module you just get video. Some people prefer no GPS so they won't get caught speeding in the event they need the video file for insurance purposes. There is no connection to the truck's GPS.
