yeah yeah its not everything, but its got the best night vision....I have a personal hotspot that I can use for those rare instances, having the option is better than NOT.
Has the F800's night vision been compared to the new 2k/4k solutions?
Hotspot is a whole 'nother ball of wax. Another battery to worry about, making assumptions bandwidth is sufficient in the area you're in, you don't go over your usage caps/make the unlimited data gods angry, so on and so forth.
At the end of the day, I wouldn't count on it being there.
Plus that whole being silver thing (the F800) screams for it to be stolen.

if the color bothered me that much I'd paint it black or - put it behind my brow tint.
as for the availability of a connection, I suppose the only other option is for someone to invent / embedded a cellular modem in one...oh wait thats not a guarantee either...I guess your just SOL.
Lots of vehicles are broken into in driveways, I am rarely in a location where free wifi isn't available & for those time when it is...I can use my personal hotspot.
Holy chit, those things are $450-500? That's a complete waste of money imo. I dont need a camera that has lane departure, accident alert, wireless anything...I'd rather spend that money on something I actually use like some Fox shocks or stereo upgrades. I installed my dash cam and then forgot about it. Ill only ever really touch it if Im in an accident or I want to use it as a second GoPro on one of my bikes.
Its totally cool if those are things you want, but I just need some really clear video of my drives to cover my *** in the event of an accident. Someone can smash your window, grab the thing and take off and you'll still have zero idea what happened or who did it. You'll have cloud video of the sound of your window being smashed, then blackness lol. I'll take the $90 option personally...but everyone gets to spend their money however they damn well please!
Installed the QVIA T790-1CH Dash Camera behind the mirror. Fastened to the brow tint with the supplied 3M tape. Has held up to 103 deg heat & our wonderful pothole filled highways.
Has an internal capacitor for parking mode. & WiFi for downloading video files & settings from my cell phone. Hard to spot from the outside of the truck.
I also have a 2017 F350 and am looking at the same dashcam. Why did you install it below the grid in the glass higher up??? Would the GPS be blocked if it where higher? It would seem to be less visible higher up with only the lens below the grid dots. Thoughts???

You want to install the dashcam so the camera can see through a portion of the windshield that is cleaned by wipers. Any higher and the camera will only see a bunch of water droplets or snow.
Tricon
briefly, how did you run the wiring to the upfitter switch?
Just picked up my 2017 yesterday and would like to wire camera same way - still learning the truck....
Could you share if its not too involved??

It's not too bad, the worst part is connecting your wires to the pass through wires in the passenger footwell.
I ran my wire across to the A pillar, down the pillar and back towards the firewall. There you will find the shortest wires ever known to man. It's a bundle that goes through the firewall and ends on the other side. They are just prerun wires so you don't have to poke through the firewall yourself.
Once those are connected, run your wire across the engine bay in the plastic vent piece, top of the engine bay. Run it to the other side and under the black fuse box there you'll find the bundle of upfitter wires. They are all taped together. Just have to unbundle them and connect your positive lead here. I have some pics I think, one sec.
Here's the driver side, where the upfitter wires are. Its that colored bundle of wires in the middle. Can be a little bit of a pain to get them free.
This is the passenger side, those colored wires that are taped to that bundle in the middle. Those are the pass-through wires.
I don't know why this is a gif...but...you can barely see the wire ends here. They have little plastic barrel caps on them, you can just see the ends of em here. They are right in the middle. Whoever decided to make these so short obviously rides the short bus.
Your upfitter bundle.
Where I ran my wire for the camera. The upfitter passthrough is back in the right corner of the passenger footwell. You don't need to remove any panels to get to it, but it can be easier if you remove that footwell panel there.
Edit:
Oh, and I actually ground my camera right there on that bolt. Just unbolted it, sanded the metal a little bit, and put and O-ring type metal connector on the ground lead. Put that on the bolt, and bolted it back down. Worked perfectly.
I think I'm going to run some type of rest cam out the back of the cap. I've got 12v power right there and no need to "hide" wires so it will be super easy.
