What I am wondering is this PCM update for the jack hammering issue going to change this parameter on the 2011-2012 trucks?

Has anyone with 2011-2012 truck had the PCM flashed for the jack hammering but still shows the message to press OK to perform regen.

I don't think any 11-12 trucks have the issue so it's unlikely they have had the flash. That's a 15 on issue.

I just got back from my trip to TN and my first two regens. I had the truck screen up both time and was monitoring a bunch of parameters with FORScan. The only PID that made any sense was DPF__SOOT_INF which went up to 3.15 g/L both times right before regents started.

Both regens kicked off automatically when screen went from 80-85%, first one at 352 miles, second at 876. Both times I locked out 6th gear and was driving 75-79. EGT11 temp went stayed between 850-950F for entire regen and both took between 10-11 minutes to co lets. Both time screen dropped to 15% before regens completed, but dropped anther 5% before it started climbing. DPF_SOOT_INF dropped to 1.14 both times before regen shut down, and continued to drop to .96 before it started climbing.

I had no option this time to stop and see if I could be operator regen. Will continue to monitor the behavior and report back.

Carl, I don't see any need for locking out 6th gear. On my 2015 I have always left it in 6th gear if on the highway and usually driving about 65mph. Takes about 15 to 18 miles to complete after the update to the PCM for the jack hammer tsb even thought I have never experienced this problem.

Using the CTS, the soot climbs to like 3.45 g/l before it starts a normal regen. Towing it maybe start at 500 mile mark or sooner. The soot is most times less than 2.5 g/l when towing and it performs a regen at the 500 mile mark.

The 876 mile regen, was this a continuation of the same mileage that includes the 352 mile regen?

Continuation Larry...net 534. Have you monitored what kind of heat do you see on EGT11 during regen?

Carl, I only monitor EGT3 and EGT4 on my CTS2. Temps on these two EGTS for most part are around 1100-1150*F. There was once a year or two ago EGT4 went to over 1450 and regen stopped for a few minutes till temp came down.

Ford has regen mileage set to 500 since the end of the last regen unless soot levels or other reasons trigger a regen. This is why the regen mileage may show more than 500 miles. I think Ford does not count the miles during regen into the 500 miles.

Got it. Thanks for heads up.

EGT 11 will be the lowest during regen, 13 and 14 the highest. With ForScan, you can monitor them all and a bunch of other things, just scroll with a finger flip. I have probably 15 things on there, reordered so the most important things are at the top, but I can pan down to the others when I am interested/bored.

My first regen after driving off the lot was at 500.4 miles, lending weight to the 500 mile max supposition. My current average is about 380. Only one since the reflash though.

What do you like to watch? I'm thinking of getting a 'Screen' just to monitor various things. Thinking about what is important to me and how much space I need....or in reality want....

Its interesting that milage alone alone would be a trigger for a regeneration. It seems clear they have enough probes to have a vary clear picture of what is going on in relation to the standards that are set by the EPA, so why dont they use it?

Carl there has to be a mileage written is the sand. Every Manufacturer has to submit their Specs into the EPA for approval. If you do a search on the EPA site you will find a lot of documents submitted by ford. The 500 mile mark is not really a standard set by the EPA, it is to do maintenance to the DPF filter so that it well meet the standards. EGT11 is before the cat, hence the lower temperature.

Also the values that are posted by folks might not be the using the same equipment and this could be apples and oranges. I know that with Torque Pro where some of the equations come from. I have other software and lately have been using FORScan, which is also been done by reverse engineering. I have been monitoring and recording the DEF level and Soot% with Torque and now interesting that I enabled the Soot% on the truck's dash and see that it is not aligned with other monitors. Simply to me the gauge is more of a idiot light thing, I don't think the bottom end of the scale can be calculated do to ash residual and that is why we don't see the Regen's stop when the gauge is at zero.

They do. Regens will trigger for miles or Soot levels. Which ever comes first. In fact the EXH FILT screen will always display the higher of those two thresholds. I use Torque to monitor Soot, etc, and I've been towing heavy, and my soot level might be at 10% on TP, but the dash gauge is at 95%, yet a regen kicks off because I was around the 500mile mark. In this scenario, the dash gauge goes down pretty quickly I've noticed too.

No option to start a regen at 85%.

Yours will likely need to go to 100% or Full to get the option Dak.

I'll be watching it to see if I get the option at full or not. Got home - at 90%, put it in park,no option. Restarted it right away and still no option... I have more running around, but not sure it's enough to get to "full".

Might have to dig around in forscan too. Maybe there is a way to turn it on and if I can get a ECU dump, maybe a setting to change the % at which you can do one. It's isn't a "yuge" deal to me, but every once in a while it would be nice to do a complete regen. Rather than the sad partial ones.
