2017 FordPass

I was at the dealer and notice a single page flyer laying around about the FordPass app for the Sync Connect that allows remote start. I am assuming this is for the new Ford's with the Sync 3 and not the older Sync in the 2016 and older vehicles.

Not sure if there is a yearly charge for the remote start and other vehicle controls like the current Ford Remote Access/remote start setup requires.

https://www.fordpass.com/en_us/home.html

You guys with the 2017 trucks on order might check this out if you have the Sync 3 system. Maybe the Ford IVT Team will chime in on some specifics.

There is a module that you can get an activate that will allow your APP to remote start, lock/unlock doors and I *think* provide the location of the vehicle. This has been out for awhile and is part of the factory alarm system.

I'm not really interested in it so I don't know much more about it.

Oh, I have this "module" already. It requires both the VSS and the Remote Access modules costing approx $450 to get remote start, lock, unlock and vehicle locator via and app. The vehicle locator only sounds horn and flashes lights. Not sure if the FordPass does anything else such as actual vehicle location like the other aftermarket items can do. If this FordPass works in conjunction the the Sync 3 to do the same things, it would save someone money in the long run I believe.

Yep it's a new thing that Ford will be offering moving forward. However, it's not backwards compatible and Ford won't be offering any upgrade modules/hardware to install. It will replace the Remote Access for most vehicles other than the lower trim levels that won't have the FordPass capabilities, in which case those will have the option to upgrade to the Remote Access that has been around for several years.

Hey Everyone,

The FordPass app’s Vehicle Controls are compatible with vehicles that have SYNC Connect only. This includes certain 2017 Escape, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, and later on the F-150 models with SYNC 3. There isn’t a fee for using the app or remote features. More details are available on the SYNC Technology page: SYNC 3 SYNC Connect support | SYNC | Official Ford Owner Site
