Thumbs up Just added remote start1

I just added remote start to my 09 expy. The 08 Yukon I swapped for it had the remote start and I got used to it. It really helps on these near 100 degree days.

Had it installed at the dealership where I bought the expy, wasn't cheap, $720.00 tax included, but in my opinion worth it.

ouchy

My other SUV has Remote Start/Alarm as well, and the wife has been "hinting" that she wants her Expy to have it as well

I'm going to visit Travis at KC Autosounds though...and do the install myself.

btw, do you have the extra itty bitty little keyfob now? or did they incorporate it into the OEM key fob, and you click lock x3 times?

$720??? That sounds steep! I asked the dealer about remote start before taking delivery on my 09 expedition 2 weeks ago and he gave me 3 options-

$150 - add to factory remote, limited range
$250 - 2nd remote for start only, good range
$350 - 2nd remote with lock, liftgate, and remote start, good range

I went for the $350 option and they used a DEI Avatel system. I am very happy with it except for a few things. If I lock the truck with the interior button or OEM remote, then open it with the DEI remote the alarm goes off. Minor, but annoying. I also wish I would have asked for the Viper 2 way remote for a little bit more money so I would be able to tell if the truck was running or not while still inside.

Regardless, with the FL heat remote start is awesome. Especially because I show the truck to customers everyday I can cool it off before they get in.

My Durango is exactly the same way.

It has the Factory Alarm installed, and then a Audiovox alarm installed.

and they don't talk to each other...not one bit

sometimes if you do it right, you can have the Aftermarket Alarm going crazy, and the Factory one is going crazy at the same time
really sucks because each alarm kills the ignition, and they each have their own horn

I am actually doing some investigating now to see if the wiring harness for the Avatel and the Viper is the same since they are both DEI. If I can buy the Viper and swap the brain out myself I will do it. I really HATE the Avatel remote in general, and the fact that it isn't two way is a real bummer

It has the itty bitty keyfob, by the way, it's not an after market add-on, it's genuine Ford parts. Guess that's one reason it cost more.

I've seen that little keey fob on quite a few of the brand new Fords locally.

I'm hoping to incorporate the Remote Start into OEM clicker, or a complete replacement with all of the current functions

So it's a Ford remote? Does it have 5 buttons?

they look kinda weird...and yeah it's a Ford remote. guess the idea is to make it small enough to not be obtrusive...that way you keep your OEM FOB...but I'd rather have the x3 lock version myself if possible

only 1 button, but it physically looks like a 4-button remote shrunken in 1/2

My 09 doesn't have a fob, it's all on the key. Makes it easier to program, now you just program the key and the buttons at the same time. Just like programming the key on the older models.

Haven't seen these new keys on ebay yet.

Nice. Although pricey, there is something to be said for all of it being OEM and working together.

Yessir I agree, I prefer OEM when possible.

Anyone have any idea how to program the fob, I see they're on ebay. Also have the keys there, but I can't find one for the expy, got 'em for just about everything else. Will these others work as long as it's an 09 with four buttons?
