Sounds like some terminology confusion. I believe you are talking about fire rings. Just having o-ringed heads does nothing to your block. Some fire ring set ups machine the grove into both the head and the block. I would never use fire rings on anything other than a competition engine that gets torn down frequently.

O-ringing the heads for a street truck is not recommended from a bunch of people I talked with. Reason being is too much movement due to heat cycles.
