They may do better on the off-the-shelf-parts (although my experience has been bad there as well). It's just their machine shops have a bad communication disconnect from their sales crew. The left hand has absolutely no idea what the right hand is doing. I'm afraid the right hand is just ....well......jerkin' off.
Not yet. Do you guys know of any body else that would build an FE shortblock?
I tried to email DSC Motorsports, but got no response. None of the big guys carry any FE motors.
I'm pretty sure, nobody in Austin has a clue. Dallas would be OK, I'll be spending some time up there.
Hopefully, I'll get some positive news on Monday. I've got the following parts just waiting for a short block.
Crower Power Beast Cam and lifters
Edelbrock Aluminum Heads complete with vlaves/springs.
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Edelbrock 750 Performer Carb
FPA ceramic coated headers
Melling high volume oil pump
Complete gasket set, including copper exhaust gaskets (although FPA headers included ther own gasket)
MSD Billet Distributor/coil/6AL igintion control and 8.5mm wires
Edelbrock true roller timing chain
One very sweet C6 , quality rebuild about 4k miles ago, with FE bell-housing
one almost completely rebuilt 69 F250 chassis with disc brakes up front.
At least my 67 is shaping up and I have a truck to drive if needed. It's darn near legal now :-)
His latest ADs are of pretty extreme stuff, But I E mailed him about doing me a 410 short block with forged pistons Scat Crank and Eagle Rods and he replied (within a few days) that he could certainly do that and just give him a call when I was ready.
I'm back at work, and lo and behold, there is communication from Flatlander! Despite requesting that they respond to my home address as well since I was off 4 days, they only replied to my work address.
Anyway, they say it will ship this week. It's a good thing, since I just sold my 390 short-block and heads. At leats my engine stand is empty now. Although, I guess I can use the 69 chassis since there is nothing there but frame/axles/wheels :-)
Hopefully, I will have a 446 FE torque monster later this week or sometime next week.
What oil do you guys like for the first run? straight 30W non-synthetic sound right?
Once again, it was delayed. At last communication it was supposed to ship Friday. We'll see if that's actually the case.
I certainly hope so, I just ordered more parts for it.
Edelbrock water pump
Electric fan
100 AMP chrome alternator
Oil pump shaft
high torque starter
all from Jeg's
Should be a cool running dependable torque monster provided it ever shows up and I manage to assemble it correctly :-)
Anybody want to come to hot central Texas and help assemble a FE 446 later this week? I've got cold beer and a fan! I suspect some sort of meat will get grilled as well :-)
