I've got a '76 F-150 with a 2V 390. The truck didn't come with a compressor or the A/C brackets. We got a set of brackets out of another '76. This compressor mounts vertically. The lower bracket # is D3TA 2882 AA. My original, guessing by the hose lengths, mounted horizontally. I know this makes no real difference, but the problem I have is getting the A/C adjustment idler and the compressor pulley to line up with the water pump, crank and lower idler pulleys. They both sit too far back from the other three. I thought I could get away with it, but I took the truck to the landfill last weekend and threw the belt when the A/C was off. So tonight I fooled with that pain in the rear for hours trying to use combinations of spacers to get the compressor lined up. This caused a few problems, the lower idler then doesn't line up, things are not straight, and the power steering pump is off. So on to my questions: First, will the dual pulley clutch fix this? If it will, where in America can I find one? I've had no luck to speak of. Second, how many different bracket sets did Ford make? Third, I am thinking of welding some new ones. The lower bracket is 5/16" forged steel and all I have is 1/4" plate. Will that be heavy enough?
