Finally made it to the mountains last week. LONG overdue vacation. This is our first 5th and I love the maneuverability of the smaller (28.5') camper for the tight spaces we had to work with. And, yes, the trailer is tied off to the tree. By the time we pulled forward enough for our awning to clear the tree, it was on a slight slope that I wasn't completely happy with. It all worked out very well in the end. In the second pic you can see our sons '04 F150 FX4 in the background. We tend to gravitate towards red vehicles, lol.

Picked up a new grand design. Our first fifth wheel. Very happy with the short trip to the lake last week.

I see you’re pulling a 28BH, what rear axle does your truck have? We have a 290BH which is a little lighter than yours & I’m thinking I need the 4.30’s but probably don’t.

I might as well post pics, here’s ours the day we picked it up. 2018 Grand Design 290BH 150 series which is designed to be half ton towable so the PSD pulls it like it isn’t back there.....

FYI: my previous setup consisted of a 10K pound Jayco 5vr, pulled by a 2014 6.7 thru 3.31 gearing. In my mostly flat land use I had NO Problems moving it.
My load changed to 16K pounds and I now have a dually with 4.10 gears, once again NO Problems moving it.

I suspect whatever gearing you currently have it'll be more than adequate.
*All bets are off if powered with a gasoline fueled buggy.*

Sorry, I should have clarified, I'm thinking of replacing my 6.7L with a 2019 6.2L gas truck so I'm wondering which axle is best, the 3.73 or 4.30. You are correct though, I have zero problems with the 6.7L,

Timing? I just added one sentence to my previous post when you chimed in.

If going over to gas then yes, get the 4.30s.
Before I had my diesel I pulled this same Jayco with a 2002 Ford V10, I have no idea of its specs but it too was more than adequate.

I wasn't initially a fan of the new exterior but it has already grown on me. It certainly looks awesome with your Magnetic truck. Just about a perfect combination. Congratulations!

I posted this about 10 years ago with pictures .............. If you do this you will never drop your trailer ever ......... take some bright white paint and paint a half inch white stripe on the fifth will hitch lock at 90° when it is fully locked so it is visible from the tailgate area of your truck. After Each hook up you need to 100% of the time check that hook on your hitch to make sure you see that bright white stripe centerline of the whole hitch assembly. If you do not see that white line that tells you you are not fully locked in. On each hook up you need to 100% all the time check that hook on your pin to make sure you see that bright white stripe centerline of the whole hitch assembly. If you do not see that white line that tells you you are not fully locked in. It is impossible to drop your fifth wheel ever if you follow this procedure .
