All I know is their a PITA. Spent majority of my nights (and by nights I mean on up to 4am) helping my buddy with his 1990 nissan. Entire intake manifold has to come off to get to the fuel injectors, which is about retarded. Needless to say a good amount of beer and whiskey found it's way to our stomachs lol.
Is it a dead miss? I assume you've replaced all the usual culprits, like plugs and wires, or coils, depending on what system it uses? Do you know what cylinder it's missing on? With a timing belt that was off a bit, I'm wondering if it's an interference engine and if any valve damage was done.
Yup it's a dead miss alright. He finally listened to me and did a compression test. (I suggested that early into the job, but he knows EVERYTHING)!
After the compression test, there are two cylinders that are stone cold dead. Yes it's an Interfierence engine.
I have him checking for valves that aren't seating now.
Well some more fallow up. It does run, but as you could imagine, not vary well. There's next to nothing for "Blow By" coming from the oil fill in the front valve cover, and each bank has a dead cylinder.
I'm leaning more towards a problem lower than the heads.
I'm open for ideas, so far the best one I have is buy American... I meant buy something that runs. But he's a sucker for something that needs work.
Every motorized vehicle we own needs work right now. Kim's mustang is in the shop getting a rebuilt transmission. After that her daily driver needs new CV joints. Then I have to fix the front end on my suv. My street bike is shot and needs to be on a lift to rebuild the top end. Might have to start riding my kids scooter to work.
any of yall know what kind of jobs might be out and around the Raleigh/Durham area? family finally decided they wanted to look around in that area-ish.. so was wondering what was actually out there... Really starting to hate my current job too..
Sparky, best bet is to check out the classifieds in the Sunday papers. Gave a friend here in NY a 2 wk old paper. He ended up getting hired over the phone, got a $1/hr raise before even going down there. Now has his own business. Raleigh - News & Observer: Classified Ads

Newspapers also help you get a "feel" for the area.
Talked to a guy this afternoon, who sold his business in NY. Went to Raleigh area, started a construction business. Couldn't deal with the "slow pace and crooked inspectors", so he came back here.
my biggest issue is i dont know what i want to do in order to actually look... I keep thinking of trucking job.. but id like to stay "local" and not do something nationally...
We left out Friday around 1 on the bikes, went to Bristol VA. Saturday we rode HWY 421 the snake between Bristol and Mtn City tn twice . Drug the floor boards and pipes alot. Then my best friends askid his gf to marry him at a lake at the beginning of the snake. Then cruised around town and celebrated that night. Came home yesterday threw the rain and wind that was steady get to worse the closer we got to home. Was definitely a very good weekend! Will have some more pics later hopefully. And I'll throw up a video from the go pro.
Good video thanks for posting that.
We spent a week in Eastern Tennessee a couple of years ago and wanted to go through the "Tale of the Dragon" but it was too far out of the way. It's only like like 319 curves. Could have been a bad deal in the truck too, with my stepdaughter having motion sickness...yup there is such a thing.
