Hows it going everyone.
I'm having an issue with my truck, and I've narrowed it down to not getting fuel. Whenever cranking the truck as soon as I get 500# of HPO the injectors start making a ticking noise. To test the theory while me friends 6.0 was running we unplugged his fuel pump and let it die. After it died we tried starting it and made the same ticking noise.
Afterwards we took his fuel pump off and put it on my truck. Afterwards the injectors are still making a ticking noise. I have cycled the key numerous times in attempt to purge the system, but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I could do, or what the possible cause is.
2005 F250 6.0l
ICP > 500#
FICM Voltage is at 48.5
Injector pulse width varies to a high of about 3.16
Secondary fuel filter is filling
What if you have the top filter off and turn the key to on, does the bowl fill properly? You need someone inside doing it so you can yell stop though. This is much safer than running the injectors dry. The other thing you can try is drinking the lower HFCM water drain. You should get a cup or so. If you then cycle the key to on two or three times and give it a minute or two to pump fuel, you should then check the filter bowl up top how fast it fills. If it doesn't, the pump is failed, or you could have a pick up tube broken off, or there is a plug in the tube that can come out. This requires either lowering the tanks or lifting the box off to check. Good luck hope it's simple!
Just an update, I am at about 1/2 tank now. I just got back in from trying to vent the system some and trying to crank it. I still haven't got it to start and the injectors are still making a ticking or clicking noise. Also I noticed something new this time though. When I barely had the secondary fuel filter housing cracked open there was a little white smoke that was coming out of some of the bubbles. Would this be combustion gasses? Meaning I need new injector seals?

Perform a bubble test. Remove the secondary fuel filter and cap and make sure there is fuel in the filter housing and crank the engine over as shown in this video and watch for bubbles and report the findings to us,
Well just trying to be logical here, thinking out loud. If you've tried a known good pump and have fuel in the upper filter housing, the only things left are the regulator, the lines from the regulator/filter housing to the front of the heads, and the fuel rails cast into the heads, or an electrical issue.
I'd check the fuel pulsewidth first if you have something handy that will read that. Should be something other than zero. Then move on to the regulator. Anything past the regulator is seperate for each bank of cylinders so it would seem unlikely both would clog up at the same time, also I would expect it to fire some even if it didn't start if only one bank was not getting fuel (I may be wrong there, I haven't had that experience). I guess it's possible some crappy fuel or gasoline got past both filters but that doesn't seem likely either. You could loosen the banjo bolt(s) on the fuel line at the front of the head and see if it has good flow there (be safe-eye protection and stuff).
Rusty,
Meant to reply last night, but I never hit send apparently. Pulse width isn't zero. Regulator has been upgraded with the blue spring, and even if I barely crack the banjo bolts at the heads loose diesel spray out so I'm definitely getting fuel that far.
Here shortly I'm about to walk out there and pull the injectors to do a little cleaning and inspecting
I know you are suspecting a fuel system issue, but at this point in time you may want to try some other diagnostics on the motor. Run a compression test on it, do all your basic diagnostic tests before tearing into the motor.
