Heya!
I was Cruising down the freeway and the truck quit running!! i was luck to be in slow lane and coasted off the road.
Last time this happened, i changed the fuel filter, and it worked again.
this time, new filter (fuel added to it), fuel does shoot out the valve when cranking (as it should) so there is presure... i drained the batteries twice, still wont kick over.. (curently charging again)... swithched fuel tanks, same problem...
check to see you have juice to the injection pump wire take it off and while key is on put wire to terminial a couple times you should here a clicking noise, next crack open the injectors to see they have fuel. let us know results.
PLC= one is almost empty, but i was running on the one about 1/4 full.... watcha thinkin??
buckford: I do get the clicking sound, there is fuel at the injectors (i tiny drop came out while cranking) i checked 5 of them - same thing, fuel at the them.
i tried using either, it drasticly sped up and almost started, but i think it was just burning the fluid... still no start
If I have a full tank in the front and a 1/4 tank or less in the rear my truck won't run (running from front tank). It'll start and then die. Add fuel to the rear tank.
Does your glow plug light come on and does your glow plugs work. My truck quit on me and would crank but would not start. It turned out that the fusible link went and cut all the power to allow the engine to run. Thats what i would check if you have no power going to your injectors also cheack to see if your injector pump gets power.
Ford.. good idea, ill somehow find and check the link no idea where it is.., i didnt see any wires to check the actual injectors to test for current tho.. there is power to the injector pump it makes the clickin noise...
I think that Ford Mud Runner intended for you to check and make sure that you do indeed have power at your glow plugs. If the combustion chamber aint warm there won't be much happening.
Ranger, yes there is power there, but considering it had been running for an hour b4 it quit WHILe Driving (see original post) id think they couldnt get any warmer...?:
mdg..... I think the low fuel and undercharged batteries may be the problem now. Continuous cranking can burn up the starter really quickly, if you can count the RPMs of the engine during a start it's too slow.........
You might have air in the system try bleeding it from the valve on the fuel filter. Have somebody hold in the valve with something, while you crank it over. Also there should be a pretty good spray of fuel if not then there is something wrong with your fule pump.
