SUMMER CHAT 2014
Trav is in the mountains & the wife & I are headed to our place in the mountains. So a little cooler than normal for us today.
But we have already gone over the 110s despite what the weather says. The casinos control the weather reporting to not scare off the tourists. So the official temps are always lower by 5 or so. Same in Las Vegas & Reno.
I got in some replacement door panel sheet metal, inner and outer, floor pans and a bunch of weather seal, rubber replacement.
Need to get some scrap metal and do some learning with a welder.
Thinking about ordering a universal AC unit for around $500 rather than the $1000+ from Nostalgic Air or Vintage Air.
Itching to get started on the projects so I can drive the truck!
Feeling kinda lazy today. Won't be doing anything too involved. Could install my new Pertronix distributor. Could sand and repaint my toolbox. Could clean out a spot in the garage to start cleaning up the '75 front end Bill helped me pick up. It needs doing.
But I've no gumption today....

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there, hope you all have a great day tomorrow.
Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there, hope you all have a great day tomorrow.
That what I had to do. Then you can have a Happy Fathers Day.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Melancholy weekend, as the anniversary of my father's death was Saturday.
He always flew the flag on the appropriate holidays, so now we do the same, with his flag my mom brought down from Michigan.
I rode the horse briefly each morning, but neither of us had any gumption.
Starting to put things aside for our annual trip to Michigan. We'll be gone for 10 days & it'll be nice to get out of the heat. We're headed up north to see Mackinac Island, various forts, the shipwreck museum at Whitefish Point, etc. Then, back down state for a friends bbq/lakefront wedding on July 4, with fireworks & everything. Should be a fun trip!
Bill, what engine?
I love those cars. I wanted another Lumina, second gen. I looked at Buick Century's. But all the V6 GM issues kept me from buying another after the Lumina & Blazer's we had. Then my father in law bought a Venture Van & he ended up having to rebuild the 3.4L under 120,000 miles. I haven't had a 3.8L but have known people with them. They might be the least of troubles but the water leaks is with them I know.
GM V6s are know to have issues with water leaks @ the lower intake manifolds. 3.1L, 3.4L 3.8L, 4.3L. Along with other issues, like the Vortex injection systems & balance shaft bearing failure.
I have owned my last V6 GM & GM. I have owned two 4.3s, one 3.1 & my father in law had a 3.4. Only one 4.3 made it to 170,000 without leaking, 3 had Balance shaft bearing failure & one had Vortex injector system failure. The FPR in the 4.3 leaking gas periodically & wiped out the bottom end bearings & cam bearings.
But they are nice looking cars that ride & drive nice get good mileage.
When they leak they can be hard to find the leak. So watch the water level in reservoir closely.
Craig the Lumina or Lesabra was one of the first cars of my moms that she actually ever drove. My mom's first car was a Olds 442 but she never got to drive it so she sold it. My mom didn't start driving till she met my dad in 94. When she got that Lumina my dad bought her it. The car was a piece of junk falling apart all the time (it was my mom's friends car whom beat it up) yet she loved it. She got a little mad when they sold it but she knew it was the best thing to do.
My mom went through a lot of GM cars and loved them all. My mom originally was a Chevy girl so when my dad back in 94 brought home a 92 Ranger 4x4 she went crazy. After that ranger she fell in love with Fords.
Anyways hope everybodys day goes well.
