SUMMER CHAT 2014
Thanks Trav. There is also a push by APS to charge higher bills to those with solar also. I don't know all the details. But they where denied the increase they wanted by the State at there last go at this, so I'm kind of watching it. It is kind of a solar tax.
I am still looking for a way to be off the aps grid. as for back up I have a Lincoln welder that will run everything I own at the same time. just getting the panels and batteries is what I don't have the spare money for.

I know. The whole thing pisses me off also. I'm still tossing this electricity thing around. I feel it will be easier to bring APS in get my permits & get everything finalized & signed off by the County. Then do what I want. With solar the County wants a permitted building & a bunch of permitted crap also. So I'm planning & going to build to make changes easy & cheap. My architect is a guy that is on the same page as I'm. He is building a new house for he & his family & full well knows the dance. He recommended bring in APS to get the process going etc. Like I say once I get a C.O. then I'll decide what & how to proceed. There is no way I going to even hint solar to APS or the County. I will never grid-tie. I'll either use APS or use other means. I will be set up so no power can back feed into APS if I decide to throw the switch on them.
I have a 6200 Watt Generator + a 2000 Watt Inverter Generator, that will power everything I would use in house & sheds. I just don't want to use it unless mandatory. I do have great neighbors & want to keep it that way.
Craig I can't remember if we talked about this but ask APS about kicking power back to them that will lower your bill to little to nothing. A guy up the road is doing it and his bill without solar being kicked back was $200 with solar it is $40 a month. We have been thinking about doing that on the new property but we aren't sure yet.

To generate that kind of solar power means he has a half fortune in SOLAR. So there comes weighing $10-$20K into solar or paying a higher bill. At $15,000 it would take 8 years @ $160/month to pay for the system not counting battery replacement & up keep. Then he only has about half life of solar unit major components left if that (20year life I'm told). $15,000 doesn't buy that much. I see solar/wind units here on some up scale houses that I know they have upwards of $50,000 in.
To get 1400-1800 watts of daily power which isn't much was going to cost about $5000 for parts no labor or permit fees for a special shed along with that cost of materials & any labor I might need etc.
I have spent hours researching this deal. The money we have spent just to keep our trailer battery charged & a few watts of A/C power has been a real eye opener. We spent a few hours in Arizona Solar & Wind in Flagstaff talking to them.
After a lot of looking they are about one of the cheapest places to deal, not to mention we can drive 50 miles to pick up anything so shipping is not that much 100 miles of gas & lunch we would buy anyway. I couldn't find anyone in Phoenix that was any cheaper.
Thanks for letting me know all that on the solar stuff. Like I said before I don't know the most about it I only have a general idea of how it all is. My dad is the one that knows more about it.

Bart safe travels. You couldn't pay me enough to go back east.
Puttering around the house a bit, listening to lounge music, before I pick up my son.
Ultra-Lounge.
The dogs are outside, probably rolling around in the dirt.
I can't find my cell phone. Misplaced it somewhere in the house. I tried calling it from my son's captioned phone, but never did hear it ring. <sigh> If nothing else, the alarm will go off tomorrow at 5:13 & I'll find it then.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
At NAU today for youngest daughter's orientation. Beautiful weather.... Just perfect. Makes me want a summer home here but that's not going to happen. The only bad thing about a 2nd kid in college is even LESS $$ for my truck!
That's life, right?
JIM
Thanks
