Alright, I'll look into those. I didn't get to take the boot off and look down there, might be a little chicken. I might tomorrow or the next night. I did get a ton done though this weekend!

Look what I found under that seat cover. Gonna have it re-done eventually, but for now, It is way more comfortable than what was on there!

degreased the engine and drive train... looks purty good though!! Found an oil leak from where the dipstick enters the oil pan... any suggestions?

A crappy photo in the shop

But here is the list of stuff I have fixed so far!
Fixed the trim on driver tail light
new weather stripping for doors
mounted rear view mirror
fixed driver side mirror and adjusted both so I can actually see
rotated tires
Seafoam (huge difference!)
Clean engine bay and drivetrain
Fixed door rattles
fix tailgate
fix bumper
test 4x4
organize tools and equipment

I guess that's it, but it is a heck of a lot more driveable now than when i first picked it up!

Yes......Be careful here! Three things come to mind:
1. The nut is not snugged down enough allowing the tube to be a little loose and spewing oil down the pan's side.....but this is doubtful.

2. The nut was over tightened, cross-threading the nut, allowing for a poor seal.

3. The nut was over tightened, stripping the threads on the tube holder, allowing for a poor seal.

If you're going to try tightening or loosening the nut, I would advise caution and a good "feel" for if/when the nut spins/stripped/cross-threaded.

Let's hope it's the first one. Good luck.

Nice pics, nice truck! Kinda like that ultralight topper too, you were using in some. What is that, exactly?

Reliability with these older trucks is just a lot of inspection and repair or replacement of... everything. Not that everything needs replaced but... for safety and reliability somebody has to go through everything, no way around it. Brakes and bearings first, anything made of rubber should be replaced, for example. Fuel and brake hoses. So then we start looking at the drums, hard lines, brake cylinders, master cylinder, spring hardware, shoes.. Can get spendy even if not setting up a concourse style restoration.

The topper is called softopper. It is made in Boulder. The top I have was for a 2008 long bed dodge ram 2500. It fits this truck perfectly. The topper is excellent quality, reasonably priced, and the second one I have had. It has taken all abuse, and is good for highway travel even in high winds at high speeds.

Makes sense. Old truck gone today... time to get the new one to where I'd trust it!

Do you guys think the throwout bearing should be my top priority right now, or do you think I can work on other stuff and drive it for a bit... hard to tell I know... I still have a lot to learn!

A big thanks to Lurch460 for the inserts. Going on tomorrow!!

I'll post some new photos!!

Well, got the inserts on... The weather is crappy, so no new pics except one of the grill.

I also dug into my dash lights. I replaced all of the bulbs, checked the grounds, and the connections with no luck. frustrating.... My printed board is in good shape... Any suggestions?

I found some weird things, as expected. Anybody recognize these?

I have no idea what this is....

Then there are two of these flash bus things.

floating below the headlight switch

Connectors with no corresponding end.

Anybody recognize any of these?

Also, does anyone know what the 20A fuse labeled emerg. does. Mine is wrapped in foil, and I am apprehensive to take it off....

Grill inserts looking good.

The flash bus things are your flashers for turn signals and 4-ways

The bulb and socket looks like its for the High beam indicator I believe its blue.

The first connecter looks like the one for the steering column, could be wrong.

try sanding the copper connections for each of the bulbs. over time they get some tarnish on theme. and when that happens there is no connection i just did this to mine now my dash lights work.

The blue thing hooks into your bezel over near the headlight/wiper switches.
Mine is hanging loose behind there somewhere too.

Nice to see things are coming a long!

You may want to delegate a small portion of your check, per week, and do things that dont need done. $20/week, and lets say, valve cover gaskets, or heater hoses, radiator hoses.

Anything is better than that truck payment you were making.

And take the tin foil off the fuse. Someone prolly didnt want to spend a nickel to replace the fuse.

1st pic, is the ashtray light, wiper and lite switch should have 2 wires. 2nd and 3rd is turn and hazard flasher. 4th pic is intermittent wiper delay. 5th is seat belt buzzer connector. 6th is bulb socket for radio. For 7th pic I would take the foil off and see if your hazard flashers work.

Well, The tin foil removal and replacement of a new fuse made the flashers and my dome light work.

I sanded off the copper edges with a scotch bright pad and now my turn signals work in the dash... Progress. It didn't look like the illumination lights started working which stinks, but fresh snow made it super bright outside . Turning the dimmer all the way to the left does turn on the dome light. Could it still be the switch?

I put it back together to drive to town. Hopefully when it is dark I will be able to see them. All the electronics are very slow. meaning you open the door, wait 5 seconds, and the light turns on. Same with the flashers, but it is more like 10 seconds. Sort of like the electricity is going very slow. common?

The dash lights on these trucks tend to be really hard to see at the best of times.

I replaced my dash illumination bulbs (194 series) with l.e.d. bulbs that are really bright. Made for a huge improvement.

Looks like you are making some good progress!
