Under the carpet he did find a 3" by 2" rust hole, but no where near the pedals or the mounting areas for the seat. I'll have to figure out how to address that. I was planning on bed lining the floor board anyway, so maybe i can seal it and then cover it. There is no rust anywhere else on the cab except that front fender. Recommendations on the hole?
He also was trying to replace the aux tank fuel lines at the selector valve and one of the nipples broke off. I will have to replace it, but he did say that the fuel gauge reads both tanks and the truck can get fuel from both. I looked up the valves and it looks like about $50.
Biggest thing is that he says it runs really well, which is the most important to me because I am satisfying the need for new transportation, and something to build as a project.
It comes with a new oil filter and a new fuel filter.
So, here is my list so far for when I get it:
Transfer all my stuff including my soft topper for camping

Fix the tailgate
Change oil and filter
Change fuel filter
Change trans fluid
Change Transfer Case fluid
Change Diff fluid
Inspect and replace all vacuum lines
Inspect and replace wiring in cab and engine bay if needed
TC shift **** ($25)
Trans Shift **** ($25)
Tank Selector ($50)
I was thinking about trying to make a cubby/shelf to go where the radio is and maybe one where the ash tray is for phones, etc. or maybe a CB. Otherwise I think I would try to put the original equipment in. Has anyone done those options? I am not a major audiophile, so I would probably just use a self powered speaker hooked to my phone for driving music. at least for now.
Bed line the floor boards
Bed line the bed
Paint the wheels black
Paint the truck flat black for now leaving the upper trim and removing the lower
Considering tinting the windows for extra sun protection
Try to find a matching tow mirror for the drivers side
New tires
I wanted to try to bend the front bumper back into shape maybe by pushing against a stump or something. Would that work?
Someday.... Cummins!
and last but not least.... DRIVE IT

Let me know you thoughts! Pretty excited now and super excited to be back in a Ford and back on the for forums!
Thanks again for all your help!
But I just did all the normal tune up and clean up stuffs. started better. than cleaned out the fuel, carb, and block with sea foam - after that ran way damn smoother.
and ya, ordered an older used kenwood with Aux jack on ebay for like $40 shipped. came today

wait'n on the infinity 6.5s.
As far as the floor goes patch panels can be found easily. If one is not made then it can be formed with 16ga sheet and welded in. The fender rust can be cut out and replaced. Or since it doesnt look too bad on this truck you could use cut out fender flares. Both cut out the rust but with flares you dont have to weld and fill the area.
Got the truck, it has been an adventure to say the least.
Didn't get to Rock Springs until 9:00 PM with the trailer and all. Test drove it, walked through everything.
First issue, no dash lights
Second issue, headlights flicker on and off until you tap the passenger side one hard
Third issue, the line he replaced from the engine to the heater core popped off while we were putting it on the trailer.
4th issue, while he as looking at it, he stepped off, missed the bumper, and broke the bottom part of the grill.
Took $100 off for the shenanigans....
Towed it home without any trouble. Got in at 2:30 AM.
Spent today tightening the hose clamps between the block and the heater core. Took a couple tries and had to remove some electrical tape that was under the hose on the engine side, but finally got it to seal right and hold a steady, low, temperature.
The thing runs pretty darn good. Never dies on me, has plenty of power, no leaks, etc.
One thing I want to ask about is the clutch is really whiney. It sounds more like power steering than a clutch, but the noise changes with the clutch. It is the same sort of "pulley-ish" metallic sound in all gears, but is a little quieter in neutral. The clutch engagement is firm and it doesn't slip at all... I thought I read somewhere that it is hydraulic and I am wondering if that is the problem... Gotta do some research.
I did do a lot on the truck today though. The bumper was simply missing a bolt, so it is straight now. The tailgate just needed some extra muscle to get it open, the mirror needed to have the bracket bent back into shape to clamp properly. I also transferred all of my stuff including my softopper for camping. (although I have a lot to figure out before then)
I am hoping the dash lights are either a ground or a fuse...

At the truck stop in Rock Springs... Sort of bittersweet to have them both in a picture

Off the topper and bumper fixed

Tailgate Down

Unless someone swapped it, they have mechanical, not hydraulic, clutches.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Thanks!
Pull the boot off the clutch fork...you should be able to peek in at the throw out berrin and the shaft......you might be able to get a couple fingers in there too. What are your observations?
To the OP, congrats on the truck!
