Well. the first leg of the trip is complete. INTENSE! Lost power steering, a headlight, and I had to repair the trailer lighting along the way. Luckily I was able to negotiate windy roads and tight trailer maneuvering to safely make it. I think I am going to find another option for the remaining 1,000 miles I have to do. When it has been running for a while it runs rough and rattles pretty bad. Not very confidence inspiring. But when it sits and the you use it sounds normal... Luckily I am starting a business with family and other options exist. I think the highboy might become the plow/work truck on our property and be replaced as a daily driver

But, some pictures...

Getting ready to head out from Steamboat

A picture at camp... we didn't get there until 10. 5 hour drive turned 9 hours...

Hood shot

Nevertheless, absolutely spectacular!!!

My ladies

Just pure awesome!

Made it Telluride!

Between Telluride and Dolores.... where I'll be camping all the time!!!!!

A few pictures from the balcony unloading and sunset:

Hopefully it is not too much. I like sharing with you guys!

Thanks for including us Lloyd I am however a little disappointed to hear the 1976 highboy might be relegated to plow duty
Just kidding I have a 1976 highboy that has been given exactly that task with a dump bed on it .. I was never satisfied with just one truck though

Looks like you picked a nice spot to settle in .. Wish you the best on your new adventure .. A little shaking never hurt anyone

Beautiful scenery! Nice camp. Your pardner looks like a tall cool drink of water, too.

I just read through this thread, it felt as if I was part of the journey.
Great pictures, took me back to a time when I was living in CO, a non-stop adventure.

Any updates, how's the truck coming along?

Thanks guys.

So I ended up getting a ride to Colorado Springs and purchased a 2000 excursion with the 7.3. I love it. I haven't been back to my new home in a few weeks so nothing really new with the '76, Other than I am keeping it and using it as a work truck, and the excursion will be my "excursion" vehicle

Here are some photos. I have lots of plans for it!

It's only a slight upgrade from the interior of the '76... My woman is a LOT happier.

So is the dog

I also wanted to share a funny little detail. This is the mileage that the '76 got towing over big passes, 4 wheeling with a trailer, Idling, etc... It did better towing than I had seen empty

And here is the mileage of the excursion with a lot more city, trailering, highway, idling, upgrades and testing across the 730 miles it went using 41 of its 44 gallons

but a slightly more discouraging fill up cost

I'll keep you posted. Heading back down to my new home and the '76 on Tuesday.

Back to work

Hey,
Back to my new home. Put the 76 to work today, and had one of the most spectacular sunsets that I have ever seen. Not to mention the general beauty of the area!!

Then Just scenery, from my driveway.....

Hello again!

Been getting some good use out of the truck. Hauled a ton of wood with it and then used it to build the properties' first fire pit! Anyway. Though you would enjoy some old dent side pictures.

The fire pit

I have been "blogging" the work we have been doing on the B&B. Hoping to have it up and running in the next few weeks. Anyone who wants to come and stay, let me know. We'd make you a deal!

There is a reason there are so many 1970's Fords still on the road - they're just GOOD TRUCKS! Sure they have been the best selling truck for a LOT of years, but these (70's) are the cream of the crop IMO.

Congrats on the new purchase, do your part and it will be a great truck fo you!

Those of you I western Colorado have some pretty amazing territory. I just got back from a 10 day elk hunt just north of De Beque and was amazed by the scenery. I'm also jealous of the amount of dents I saw on the trip that weren't covered in rust like they are here in Minnesota.

Still Runnin Strong!!

Hey guys,
Thanks for all of the nice comments, and sorry for not keeping up with my thread. This thing is one heck of a work truck. Built Ford Tough!!! Although I did blow out the back window yesterday with a rock... That's my stupid fault... I hooked the shovel funny and went a little to far....

Since this has become more of a picture thread, I just wanted to attach a few of it in it's new environment!

You can send some of that snow this way if you don't want it.

Speaking of snow. We seldom ever get much if any snow here any more.
But at the moment it has been coming down all day. GF called and said if
I need supply's I had best go get them. That would be a 200 mile round trip
to the store. She said the weather is calling for four feet by this time tomorrow.
Woo Hoo, as I haven't seen snow like that since the early "80's.

Bring It On Lord. Lets have her. Works slow this time of year. Four feet would
damn sure boost a few pay checks. Thinking I should have kept the old wrecker.
Made good money with it in the winter back in the day. Ain't no snow days here.
All the kids in town can see the school from the house and walk there. We don't
even have a bus.

Hey Guys,
I tried to post a new thread, but something about the youtube embedding jacked it. So I am trying to continue troubleshooting. I started with my brake booster because it quit working and I thought it was causing a Vacuum leak. The new booster helped a lot, but it is still not running right.

This video is before changing the booster, but the smoke is similar. it just doesn't lope near as bad. It's crazy because it just started all of the sudden after sitting for two days....

It still blows soot when changing gears and getting on it hard and it smokes at idle.

I was going to rebuild the Carburetor because I think it needs that anyway, but I am not sure how to troubleshoot this problem. Any help would be appreciated. The temperatures have been mild lately, so its not a cold weather issue.

Sometimes it blows blue, which is worrisome. But it does seem like it's running too rich at the same time. Can't tell if it's burning oil or not.

Thanks!
