awesome truck. Looks like the stock turbo. If it doesn't have a tuner (and even if it did have *just* a tuner) it wouldn't be smart to throw any turbo mods at it.
Thanks! I read where some say Garrett is the stock turbo and this says Holset on it. The previous owner said it used to have some sort of chip on it. They took it out and had replaced the ECU, so I'm pretty sure its running stock tuning right now. I'm not looking for massive power or blowing smoke, just a reliable old truck that can be used to haul things here and there.
That is a bit strange, never seen a holset on a factory 7.3. I'm not the end all be all for stock 7.3 components but I do not recognize the turbo off hand, however he351s and hx40s had a band clamp straight do the down pipe. if it is off another truck, judging by a second look at the photo, it may be an he351 which would be a score.
Howdy guys, my name is Brett. Been without a Ford truck for awhile now. Always wanted another one since I sold the Bronco, I found this truck and couldn't resist. 4wd 7.3 5 speed, more pics to tomorrow when its daylight out.
There are alot of little things that are different then a standard 96 F350 so I'm trying to sort them out. I've noticed some gouges on the intercooler boots. I could always measure them, but is there a way to tell if this is somehow a 99+ intercooler put in this truck?

Centurion did NOTHING for performance it was just cosmetic. I'm not quite sure how I missed that it was Supercrew cab. Pay extra special attention to where they hacked the supercab to the back of the crewcab and also the frame splice. Centurion did some REALLY SHOTTY work
BTW your intercooler is a Hypermax unit for an OBS
This is my dads 97, 5 speed, air bags with on board air, pd exhaust brake, 282k miles, 3.55 gears, 4" exhaust, red interior, and the only time that truck moves its in front of a trailer. the truck is work horse. Not a lot of power but just keeps going and going. The truck and trailer empty is just over 13k pounds. He scraped that dozer and it weighted in at 10k pounds This trailer is the most that this truck has ever hauled with my dad owning it 14k pounds empty then three horses, water, food, cloths, horse feed, and tack its about 20k pounds then you add in the truck

Thanks for pointing out he intercooler model. I looked and noticed a tag that says "Vargas Turbocharging out of Hayward, CA" This truck was originally purchased in CA so that lines up. Would a dealer have sent this truck to that shop to be "upgraded" or would it have been more likely one of the first owners do you guys think?

It looks like an H1C to me. He351cw's have a wastegate and a compressor housing that's pointed forward for the intercooler and H1C's come out the side like his. H1Cs dont have a wastegate.
