Whether the temperature is 75 degrees out in the morning or 50, from a " cold start " in the morning the truck shifts had from 1-4 and hard shifts while down shifting as well. Now when the trans warms up the hard shift stops but then the flare shifting starts and it can get pretty bad.
I was reading about changing shift solenoids, but my question is can I change them myself or does it have to be done at the dealer or a trans shop with the programming capability to enter the new solenoid info, or should I just say screw it and replace the trans due to mileage.
The truck is used for work and does tow various sizes of trailers and loads including 30+5 tandem axle gooseneck.
Guys, I need some help. I have a 2011 F350 that I bought new, 2nd production run. I have 75,000 miles on it and for the last 10,000 miles it has a hard downshift 3-2 and 2-1 when it is cold. After driving for about 2 miles, it operates fine. I took it to a dealer and they "replaced the SSA, removed and cleaned main control, replaced HC3Z 7G276 A connector and the BC3Z 7G383 solenoid" and charged me $620. The truck still has the hard downshift when cold. I think it needs to be fixed but do not want to repeat a $600+ useless repair. Any suggestions?
2011 F250 147,000 miles. Ok truck has been in shop 4 months. Was downshifting very hard out of 5th gear finally broke clutches. Took to shop rebuilt it and installed new TC still same hard down shifts. During the test drive it down shifted 3 times out of 5th gear and broke clutches again. Shop found some valve body problems put a kit in valve body rebuilt again and done same thing. The truck is deleted I was running a H&s with stock trans tune. Shop thought the tune was bad so I went to EFI live with GPD tunes still have trans on stock programming. After test driving again it burnt up same as other times. Rebuilt again and replaced planetary gears because it tore them up and also replaced all solenoids and new valve body, still having same issue. Has anyone experienced this or have any advice. To me it's like the TC is staying locked when downshifting out of 5th gear.any help will be greatly appreciated I need my truck back thanks.
I currently have a mild tuned and deleted 2015 6.7 Powerstroke.
I just noticed today that the transmission is holding 4th gear until i let off of the pedal or it shifts around 2500-2600 RPMS.
FWIW I was having terrible shifting into and out of gear 2 on my 2011 F350. It was most noticeable on light pedal at slow speeds and would frequently jerk the whole truck. It would also get confused when coasting and flare hard before slamming into a gear.
Instead of screwing around with solenoids and having to take the truck a part twice to get band numbers, i went ahead and ordered a sonnax rebuilt Valve body on rock auto for $480(after the old core is returned). Comes with all new solenoids and a new strategy Code. Took me less then 2 hours to swap the valve body, then with a 72 hour pass to Motocraft Service($21) I was able to pull the strategy file and write it to the truck using forscan.
This truck drives NIGHT AND DAY better now, its totally transformed. I dont even notice it shifting anymore at slow speeds. My fuel economy also improved slightly and trans temps are down about 5-10 degrees on average. I would HIGHLY recommend this 'one and done' fix to anyone battling shifting issues on these 6R140 transmissions. I just wish i had done this sooner instead of pedaling it through gears and living with the terrible shifts, by far the best $500 ive spent on this truck.
